As the saying goes, you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. However, the old dog is the ideal teacher for the generation of pups proceeding him.  Being one of the older, more seasoned member of his gang, Rain was considered one of these old-timer dogs.  Knowing the odds and ends of Viper protocol and the way they wanted things "taken care of" was something that came with years of involvement and participation in the gang's productivity while putting one's life out on the line in order to fulfill his or her duties.  Sure, there were many members within the gang that possessed that kind of experience, yet, due to the deceitful nature of those within the gang, newer members were lucky to be partnered with someone other than Rain.
One by one they were sent to him, and as a sick joke at that. Â Rather than send them off to someone more aware and insightful, they chose the one man that truly gave little to no value to those around him. Â But, by doing this, it was almost like a discrete way of testing the fresh members. Â They would throw them into the deepest end of the pool and watch them as they sank or learned to swim.
Today was but another beginning to one of those infamous tests.  With no care in the world, Rain continued on as if he knew nothing of the challenges he would have to create for the less experienced enforcers.  Of course when the time came his diseased mind would surely come up with some horrific task to put the fresh meat through, but for now he was planning on carrying with his usual antics of roaming the territory in whatever shadow he could find, making his daily checks of the borders and waiting for the opportunity to pounce at the sight of a Crest.  Lately he had become antsy and more prone to kill spontaneously at any time in the day, which was quite unusual compared to his previous pattern of only  finding his prey at night.  Not only that, but he found himself shying away from the everyday citizen and instead being drawn to those on the other side; the members of the Crests.
Sure, continuously killing member after member would most certainly raise the bounty over his head, yet, it only made the game that much more entertaining. Â In actuality, the more of them he disposed of, the more those moronic bastards sent more of them for him to do away with. Â The cycle continued to grow by the day, and in all honesty, Rain loved every waking second of it.
He lurked in the alleyways of the buildings casting enormous shadows in the light of the day. Â It was almost as if he slithered from place to place, the travel silent and smooth like that of a serpent. Â Like that of a true Viper.
But, he recalled orders he had been given earlier that day and sighed with disgust. Â With a soiled attitude after his failed attempt to find his next play thing, Rain dragged himself to the meeting location he had been told, an older warehouse owned by the gang itself that was rather close to his location. Â Of course with the potential of interference, the Vipers had shut down the space and it instead turned into a usual meeting spot for members of every stage and division.
He arrived within minutes only to find that a group had already gathered within the dirty, dump of a place. Â The older members standing around all suddenly stood up straighter and the hair on their arms standing up on end was disturbingly visible to the human eye. Â Rain laughed at the pathetic worms. Â These men were never able to stand their ground in his presence and it did nothing but degrade the little magots even further in Rain's mind, even if that was at all possible considering most everyone he came across reminded him of a spineless worm.
With an instant silence filling the huge space around them, Rain sighed and flickered his gaze from member to member, almost hearing their worthless, weak hearts pound rapidly in their chests. Â "... So," Rain said in his eerily-soft, deep octave, "who's it going to be?
