Bad Luck! by Jhariah is so finale ArKayne coded
Hear me out hear me out hear me out(SPOILERS FOR ALL OF MALEVOLENT AHEAD YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED)
The entire first bit(āThis time arounds no differentā to āI have to chooseā) is Kayne comprehending that he canāt kill Arthur with the Blackstone because Arthur is the last Arthur Lester, and also just the general theme of bets and wagers throughout the song feels very relevant
ā āYouāre not like me, Iām not like you, Iām not who these things happen to,ā and thatās exactly what you say before they doā Kayne watching Arthur comprehend he really did become the only person who could save the universe by complete happenstance. Without Lilith he never wouldāve been important and without the Managerās help it never wouldāve been him specifically who made it to the end.
āI canāt dance like I used toā to āto someone who needs it much more than meā feels very much like Kayneās attitude towards Arthur, his need for entertainment and to maneuver Arthur around like a puppet(and also to know what makes him different). He sees himself as Arthurās fortune because heās giving him more options, helpful or not.
āHand in hand, come human error and plain bad luckā this line, RAHHHHHHH this lineā¦bajfbwk nfkwnekwndkenekndksndk. Simply put, Kayneās human error and Arthurās plain bad luck brought about the ending of Malevolent Blackstone. Which I also just love because in the finale Arthur calls him the most loving god(and in Arthurās eyes the most human) and Arthurās bad luck was brought about by the supernatural and inhuman, and drove him to do inhumane things to survive. I love narrative foil characters
āIt seems the timings always wrong for the ones who wait too long, you canāt catch a break youāll have to make your ownā I could jump to the obvious Kayne taking too long to realize Lilith and The Manager had tricked him into making Arthur the last, but I think this line applies to both of them. Because Kayne is wickedly creative, and will force his way out of any corner given enough notice, which he tried right up until the very end. But also, those lines apply to Arthur. His marriage with Bella, first of all. The timing was wrong because he waited far too long to speak up about how he didnāt love her, and by then he was avoiding attending the birth of his own daughter, which morbidly solved his worries about ruining the lives of himself, Bella, and Faroe since Bella died giving birth. Of course single parenthood is an entirely unique challenge of its own, and he grieved her a lot. But still, the line fits. As it does with Faroeās death, he waited too long to check on her in the bath and she drowned, Arthur always did things much too late and lost people he cared about, up until the season two finale. He couldnāt catch a break, and so he made his own. He used his father in lawās advice and didnāt let the King win and he finally acted just in the nick of time to save himself and John, even though he thought he was going to die in the process. (More of Kayne seeing himself as Arthurās fortune/creative cheat for fate). Also Arthur continues to be able to act fast enough to save the people he cares about right up until Kayne gets involved again(canāt save Butcher or Noel, and also Kayne ensures itās too late for him to save Antoine and indirectly leads to Yorickās death)
āMy legs drag behind meā to āBut I know that one day I will lose them tooā Just Kayne comprehending he is losing to Arthur and John
āBefore you play with knives and find yourself in twoā THE SEASON TWO FINALE HELLO???? HE SPLIT HIMSELF AND JOHN WITH KAYNEāS KNIFE
āI finally climbed to heights, I-ā to ā(you got what you deserved)ā he flew too high with his Icarus wings of many Arthurs and he cannot stop laughing because of Azathothās grin. Hooray! And since he canāt possibly have known for certain Arthur would live he also thinks Arthur is sharing his fate hooray
The piano solo. Like. Come on. Iām going feral over this
āAnd I would do it againā to āthatās more than Iād ever ask of youā these final lines feel like a curtain call to a show, which feels very in line with Kayneās character and also with his incredibly drawn out and almost theatrically dramatic death(letās be real here he probably isnāt gone for good, but still).
If anyone read this far and got through all my potentially redundant and convoluted lyric connections, thank you! I have listened to this song basically nonstop and I just abbfjwbfkebtnk itās so good. Anyways go listen to Jhariah and have a wonderful day/night
