According to a source known simply to our fandom as Vampire Putinβs disciple (If you want to get up to speed with it, ask @elenatria about it) Legasov was known to be a tough teacher.
He gave his students tough love, and he expected the best out of them.Β You are correct that some of that morals and values to his field would rub people the wrong way, and often not, those people would be slackers and one would think he expected too much out of him.
He would toss the papers of some of his students and say;Β βLooks like you donβt understand.Β Come by my office to talk about it.βΒ He wanted his students to learn and think for themselves, not just parrot things that are from the textbook.Β Β
So you are right in the fact that he would be downgraded to hell, but Legasov was an excellent raconteur and loved telling stories and jokes, and was witty, so he could get some of his students to like him.Β But he felt that it was his position to push the students to think for themselves and expected a lot out of them so yeah.Β Β Β
