âNope, everythingâs fine,â Kyungsoo answers slowly, an odd feeling of dread sweeping down on him.
âWell, the reason I ask,â Mr. Kim starts, tenting his fingers on the table between them, âIs because Baekhyun has been...ah, unusually aggressive with the other children lately.â
âOh,â Kyungsoo says to fill the silence.
âYeah...â Mr. Kim drawls out. Clearly, heâs uncomfortable broaching this topic, but itâs no picnic here for Kyungsoo either. âSo typically, these kinds of outbursts are due to...new changes at home or...â He trails off, probably hoping for Kyungsoo to jump in and help.
âWell, nothingâs going on,â Kyungsoo says, perhaps a little too snappy. Heâs feeling defensive.
âOr perhaps a change in diet?â Mr. Kim offers.
âMr. Kim, look-â
âJongin,â Mr. Kim corrects.
âWhatever,â Kyungsoo replies, waving his hand dismissively at the interruption. âThereâs nothing wrong with my son.â
âOh, of course there isnât!â Mr. Kim rushes out loudly, holding his hands up. âHowever...he did scratch one of his friendsâ face and then he pushed a little girl and stole someoneâs banana pudding. And then some of his drawings, well...â
Kyungsoo gulps as he watches Mr. Kim push the pieces of paper across the table. Heavily black and red jagged crayon lines, depicting a childâs version of a horror movie, full of vague red splotches of blood and gore. Well.
âMr. Do?â the teacher asks after a minute goes by.
âWe were watching Resident Evil the other night,â Kyungsoo explains. âI know itâs violent, but like...you know.â
âWell, I donât think we could say that zombie movies can make him go steal peopleâs lunches,â Mr. Kim blurts out before his eyes go wide and his mouth closes with a soft âpopâ. Yeah, you really overstepped with that one, buddy.
âExcuse me?â Kyungsoo asks.
âIâm sorry,â Mr. Kim apologizes quickly. âI was just wanting to help... Baekhyunâs typically a very sweet kid, and itâs just odd to see this transformation. Is....he like this at home too or?â
He watches Mr. Kim - Jongin - squirm under his gaze as Kyungsoo stares at the teacherâs face while he figures out his thoughts. Well. Yeah, but... âHe found out he was adopted,â he says, licking over his lower lip.
âOh...wow, yeah, thatâd be something big for a child,â Mr. Kim says.
âWell, it wasnât just that,â Kyungsoo mutters, scrubbing at his eyes. âMy husband at the time, he hasnât been by to see Baekhyun in months now, since heâs too busy with some new boy toy, and then he found out the adoption thing...Iâm assuming from here, since someone explained to him that two men canât make a baby.â
Summary:Â Deep down, in some dark recess of his mind, Mingyu always knew it would end up this way: that he would inevitably fall for Minghao.
(or, the one where Mingyu realizes heâs been in love with his best friend and tries to make up for lost time)
