Good morning plant friends! 💚 Another new leaf on my Alocaia Cuprea Red Secret! Yes this leaf is nearly as big as my head! Which is pretty big 🤣 I just love the green veining on this leaf. I've been asked quite a few questions about Alocadias going dormant in the cooler months, and wether its essential to let them go dormant. I've read a lot of articles this week and from what I've learnt there is no need to let them go dormant. Some countries are hot all year round and they do not go dormant there. I have my Alocasias on heat mats and keep my home above 20c to stop them going dormant. It's the middle of winter here in Australia and my Alocaia has just pushed this leaf out so I think it's very happy! Anyways, have an awesome Thursday! The most perfect Philodendron Pink Princess!! Who else has a Pink Princess with split pink leaves? I have mentioned in an earlier post that I'm after a really nice Pink Princess. Well Ive just been to visit @francypants78 to see this stunning leaf that has just unfurled. So yes, now I am begging for a cutting but I doubt that'll happen for a very long time!! 😅 So yes, if anyone in Perth Australia sees a Princess like for sale please let me know 😁 Like with most philos. Keep the humidity above 50% and give plenty of indirect light. If you don't give these guys enough light they will start to lose their pink. But not direct sun though as this will scorch the leaves. I like to let the soil almost dry before watering. If you do notice the leaves losing all their pink, sometimes cutting the plant back to its last pink leaf can help. Then increase the light it has been receiving and you should get more pink leaves. My Ctenanthe Burle Marxii (aka Never Never plant) is coming along quite nicely. My bestie gave me this plant about 6 months ago with only a few leaves on it. Now look at the size of it! 🤩 These guys like bright indirect light. Be careful though as too much light will cause the leaves to fade. Keep the soil moist at all times to try prevent the tips from browing. Also, they prefer high humidity just like all the caletheas, stromanthes and marantas. These are slightly poisonous so best to keep away from pets and kids.
