I need all baby fandomers/people new to fandom to stop treating other fans like the creator(x2)!!
I understand watching/reading/playing something and becoming obsessed then finding out there’s a fandom for it. It’s like movie? Movie has second movie?!?!
But it’s not a second movie. It’s a fan having fun in the same way you are.
(if you aren’t getting it, then let’s get a scenario out)
Imagine, you and your friend go to a professional restaurant that serves one main dish and you & friend get the dish, right? It’s so good! You guys talk about it all the time, and friend(in this case, fanfic writers/fan artist) decided that they want to learn to make this dish.
For fun. They are not a professional. Maybe they burn the onions or the sauce is has more garlic cuz they like it better like that. Whatever.
Something about how they made it doesn’t taste like the professionals.
You can tell your friend it doesn’t taste the same, which they know. They ate the same thing as you. They know. This was their version, the way they wanted to have it.
maybe they switched red wine for white or they used tomato sauce instead of paste.
But they like it better that way. Or maybe it’s just how they wanted to try it today.
Then friend tells you they found a cooking class focused on the dish(aka tumblr/ao3/youtube/whatever you interact on). They invite you to come to the class for the day! Maybe to try cooking yourself or just to taste test.
Everyone in the class knows what the dish. Maybe even been to the restaurant and have eaten it.
But none of the dishes taste the same. Not to the one you ate and not to each other.
Maybe one or two taste the same kinda ginger but one is spicy and one isn’t.
Maybe one has couldn’t afford to go and is going based on just the recipe and what they like.
Maybe one has been to restaurant but remade the dish entirely. Just to see how it would taste.
Maybe all the changes are ones you hate. Maybe the dish was just perfect for you. There’s one or two chefs in the corner making exact copies cuz they like to. Go to them, not the others.
The point is, what right do you have to come and tell them that they did the dish wrong? Who said they were trying to do the dish right?
What right do you have to judge their personal preferences?
What right do you have?
Also-! Side note!
If you can’t barge in on a restaurant when they’re closed for the day, why do y’all get mad when a creator can’t post? They are a human being too. They deserve the human respect of a fucking break.
AND!!! If a restaurant changes recipes and you don’t like the dishes anymore, you don’t go on TikTok or Twitter saying that their dishes are fucking awful because they use cumin and you HATE cumin with a passion. You don’t get to yell at the owner to change back to the recipe.
You know what owners usually do? They ban you. They tell you to leave or to eat something else or not to come back. If you don’t like, don’t interact. Simple.
