My friend came back to visit from JPN after two years and we bonded over SMAP (Katori Shingo) and Ikemen-Trudeau
Her thoughts on the party leaders:

Trudeau: (first photo she finds) Ohh he looks a little fat here--
(second, photo she finds) WOW. maji de ikemen da!! So handsome!!! Is he leading in the election?
(Me: explains CDN political system and how Harper’s team took advantage early to turn Trudeau’s youthful, energetic, handsome good looks against him to paint into someone who’s “too young and not ready” to be PM even though he’s 44 and Harper is like 48 or w/e. AKA: Image Management 101.)
Admittedly, Trudeau looks exactly like he did when I met him twice in person--he was a teacher--in his 30s--hell even 20-year old Trudeau looks like 40 year old Trudeau.
Her: (Spots poster of Thomas Mulcair) Ehhh?
Me: Oh! He’s another party leader--
Her: A moustache-ojiisan!

Me: (Points out Gilles Duceppe, explains Bloc Quebecois) Uhmm....they want to divorce Quebec from Canada.

Our thoughts on SMAP:
Me: I had heard of them before, but recently [ soyrwoo ] has gotten me familiar with them. But they sing off-tune sometimes.....
Her: Oh! Have you heard of Katori Shingo? He’s my favorite! He was here in Quebec a few years ago!
Me: 8( Really?!!

I’m so excited for all the travelling I’ll be doing this year...going to Vancouver in a couple weeks, then in July I’m going to London with my family again!!! And in October my dance group is going to New York to perform, and I’ve decided that I’m going to stay by myself in NYC for a few days afterward and see the sights. I’m so excited. I haven’t been able to travel for a couple years, so this will make up for it ;-)
Don't leave me behind. Or maybe I'll get their first. First.
