CR C1 ramblings, episodes 26 to 29
Gah! It’s been so long since my last rambling, and yeah, I have been very slow at my watching, but still remember some of the moments that made some impact in my memories, like finally “that guy” is gone from the campaign, but, my god, when people say his last ep was his worst, they were no kidding, such an awkward moment, if you know you know, and buying all the mirrors in Emon?! Now I understand that meme.
But let’s leave that in the past. The one-episode adventure of the group hunting down the Roc bird and all of them turning into cows was cute, so very creative of Matt, since they couldn’t advance with the story without Taliesin there, and then starting the next ep with Percy’s fighting alone Delilah’s ghouls the first round, hell yeah! this is why he’s a fighter class! (Vax being right beside Percy when he shot Bad News probably damaged his hears, ouch)
Taliesin translating Marisha’s words to the water creature is so cute and funny, I like their warm brother-sister dynamic, they are the opposite of Laura and Liam haha
The road to Whitestone! is so nice to see how long it took them to get there, those poor horses, and finding the castle where those giants that we see patrolling the streets of Whitestone used to live. I’ll probably rewatch these episodes to take notes for fanfiction writing purposes.
OMG THE ORIGINAL DOOR INCIDENT!!! It took them 23 minutes to get past that damn door!!! And we can’t forget about this gem of dialogue:
Liam: there’s no lock?! but I rolled a natural 20, does that help?
Taliesin: suddenly a lock appears! Utterly pickable!
Percy having a sword that he never, since they started the campaign, ever used until this point is so funny to me as a rpg gamer, I tend to have items and weapons that I never ever use haha
The groups getting concerned about Percy looking worse and worse, almost like he’s getting attune with his city, is so nice, they could be acting like assholes and make light of the situation, but they are taking Percy's mental health very seriously.
(Matt having maps for almost the whole city is so very impressive, did this man ever sleep well during these campaigns??)
And the infamous scene of the corpses hanging from the Sun Tree, the way Matt slowly describe the bodies until it finally clicks that they were dressed as them, with Taliesin almost immediately understanding that and walking away, and the sheer look of horror from the rest of the cast. This made me think about how fucked up this view must have been for Percy, because this is not just a creepy thing they did just to show how evil and powerful they are and keep the people afraid, but by hanging corpses dressed as Vox Machina on the decrepit and almost dead Sun Tree, symbol of Whitestone and the de Rolo family, the Briarwoods were rubbing on Percy’s face the dead of his past family, and the future death of his new one. This is an emotional and psychological damage that has so many levels that is no wonder Percy was so unstable during this time (and I bet Taliesin loved every single minute of this arc as the gothic dark bastard he is haha)
I’m still not done with ep29, but was Ripley given a whole mansion to herself???!!! That bitch!!!
And I’m also understanding why some people complain about some of the changes they had to do for the animated series, but, as funny as some bits were, there is only so much they could put in a more story-driven format, and much of what the cast do in the campaign is explore and fuck around, and those parts would not translate well in the series. And is easier to follow the story in the series version. Is best to think as both versions complement each other.
All in all, things are great, learning so many new things and lore about my favorite dnd chaotic group 💖
