@pickythepidgeot submitted: I have a few bugs!
Any idea what kinds these are? It's in Wisconsin. 💕 My little brother and I went looking for some cool bugs out in the woods and founds these precious bubs. We found more but these were the only good photos I could get.
Some VERY nice bugs! What a fun time to go looking for bugs in the woods with your sibling, good for you two. The first dudes are soil centipedes - very long and adorable! The second pal looks like a woodland ground beetle larva in Pterostichini maybe. Which makes sense since that’s what the last beetle is! Specifically a rain beetle, Pterostichus melanarius, I think.
@armyoffrogs submitted: Hi again! It’s ya boy, still in Beaverton, OR. There was some rain today so I realized it was a good opportunity to say hi to some friends under rocks.
The beetle lookin fella was a hassle to take a picture of, kept on running away, which is sorta understandable but still!!! And for refrence I THINK the lines on his back aren’t stripes but rather ridges? Not too sure.
Bonus worm pic! There were a lotta wriggly fellas today! I know they aren’t bugs but I think everyone can enjoy a good worm once in a while.
Sorry these pics aren’t the best! I still hope you enjoy the friends I discovered for you
Hello! After a rain is a GREAT time to look for friends. Yes the lines on the beetle’s back are ridges and not stripes. It’s a European gazelle beetle. As you can guess by the name, they’re not native to Oregon but they have been introduced. Worms are considered bugs for the purposes of this blog! And millipedes too :)
ACTUALLY update now that I’m looking closer it could also be a rain beetle? I’d need clearer photos of the pronotum. Either way both are ground beetles.
@cl0udpine submitted: Saw this guy in the Oregon Dalles any idea what kind of bug it is?
As with the last submission it could be either a European gazelle beetle or a rain beetle. I’d need a closer look at the front end! But definitely a ground beetle.
@fangoftofu submitted: A rain beetle in NW Oregon!
I love this dude.....look at that beetle tum fuzz. Exquisite. 🖤
