iroh and jet??wha???
Sigh some folks think that because Jet doesnāt have a good adult figure in his life, Iroh should be someone who befriends and guides him and help himĀ āovercomeā his trauma. Which hhhhhhhhhhhhh I kinda get what theyāre trying to do like they think Jet being able to get along with a firebender would show that heās healed but itās really not that simple.
Like, itās not a phobia he can overcome by slowly being introduced to again, itās a deep trauma thatās shaped his life. The Fire Nation is the reason Jetās lost his family and forced him to grow up so fast; since he was eight heās had to fight to survive and heās not only seen the damage the Fire Nation has done to other children, heās experienced it first hand. Hell, literally just seeing Iroh heat his tea - not even using firebending in a dangerous way- was a massive trigger for him which led to him spiraling into a bad place again.
Jet doesnāt need to befriend a firebender to heal, and he certainly doesnāt need a firebender (from the MONARCHY no less) toĀ āhelpā him in any way. Again, I understand the thought process behind it, but Jet being friends with aĀ āniceā firebender isnāt gonna make him forgive and forget years of colonization, loss of culture and death of his loved ones.Ā
