Alderaan: Favourite planet

This is… a weird choice, but I think my favourite planet is Corellia? Which I literally know nothing about other than that they make good spacecrafts and that Han Solo and Wedge Antilles are from there. And for some reason I found it so funny that Han AND Wedge are from Corellia (and the Falcon of course, my one and only trash love) that I now kinda like the planet. XD Also the name is pretty. I have a thing for pretty names.

Okay, for real, to name a planet that’s actually shown: I like Naboo. For few reasons other than ‘it looks pretty and I’d wanna live there’. :D

Dagobah: Favourite quote

“There is always a bigger fish.”

(I originally wanted to pick a more beautiful or meaningful quote. But this sentence has found its way into my family’s everyday language use… and it’s also one of these statements that generally make no sense when used out of context, but if you think about them long enough you can convince yourself that they’re actually very meta, and then they start to become weirdly motivational.)

John Williams: Favourite song or theme

Okay, just to be clear - that’s impossible to decide, for several reasons. One, John Williams is a genius who wrote SO MANY brilliant themes for this movie series. Two, my favourite songs in general change so often; the answer that I’d give today could be entirely different from my answer in two months.I’m still gonna attempt to name… a few. :D Prepare for a long rambling of a music nerd.

The Duel of the Fates is awesome. If you had asked for favourite overall scene, the duel from Ep. I would be one of my top answers. Idk, it was just… a thing that had a great impact on me as a kid. And to this day it’s still one of my two absolute favourite fighting scenes. John Williams is a composer who captures feelings and moods extremely well, to a point where several pieces would almost work without the video, as a kind of programme music. Duel of the Fates is one of them.

Admittedly, after watching the Behind The Scenes of the Mustafar duel, the Battle of the Heroes has grown on me. Because someone, I can’t remember who, said something like, it was supposed to kind of “mirror” Duel of the Fates, only step it up a notch because now two friends are fighting each other over life and death. It has several aspects from Duel of the Fates, only it has such a different mood, it’s so fast-paced and hectical and desperate, and then almost… reluctant at times. I’m listening to it right now, and I’m instantly getting all the Ep. III feelings.

And then another favourite is definitely the Force Theme. Especially when it’s played softly and melancholic. I’ve always disliked that it’s picked up in the throne room scene in Ep. IV because for me it’s always kinda… clashed with the scene. But ugh, that scene on Tattooine where Luke watches the suns set… ugh! That theme must be played softly, passionately, with anticipation. Give me ALL THE FRENCH HORNS! :D

4. Do you like your name? Is there another name you think would fit you better?

I am attached to both Jazz and Emily, though in different ways. There was a time when Jazz felt more like me than Emily did, in a very obvious sense – who I was online and inside was much more, and much more myself, than who I was to others’ face irl. And Emily is what I’ve been called all my life, with the occasional deviation into nicknames. It’s part of me, as much as my hands – but currently I don’t feel like Emily fits me particularly well? I wouldn’t change it, though. Too much work, and I don’t know what I would want to change it to anyhow.

15. Five most influential books over your lifetime.

The King of Pizza, by Sylvester Sanzari – this was my favorite book as a little kid, and one that still holds a special place in my heart. It wasn’t my first or particularly life-changing in and of itself, but I read it so many times that it must count for something.

Briar’s Book, by Tamora Pierce – Briar’s Book was my first introduction to Tamora Pierce’s worlds, back when I was but a tiny fourth grader and shortly before I learned the value of starting at the beginning of a series. It was also my first introduction to the sort of reader I would become, and, although it is a book for teens and preteens, my first step towards more advanced reading.

The Lord of the Rings, by JRR Tolkien – My first proper fandom was LotR, and the books were a major influencing factor in my life. It’s so major that I can’t even explain it properly. All I can say is that there is a very distinct “before LotR” stage and “after LotR” stage.

So You Want to be a Wizard, by Diane Duane – Hands down the most beautifully and powerfully written series I’ve ever had the great pleasure and privilege of reading, and a great influence on my view of the world. Also, I am very proud to be part of the fandom on Tumblr. We have some great people.

Walden, by Thoreau – I think Thoreau would not be out of place among the social justice crowd here, or the positivity/self-care crowd which so often intersects with the former. We get along really well for that reason, although I don’t agree with everything he writes. He also has a great way of talking about nature, and is one of the few people/things that can still induce a notable sense of spirituality in me.

24. Have you ever felt like you had a “mind-meld” with someone?

It happens from time to time, though I suspect not in the sense that the original Vulcan mind-meld is supposed to be taken. Most often it happens with my two oldest sisters, or – you, actually, Rae. XD The other week it happened with a customer in my checkout lane at work. So it goes. I think probably it would happen with other internet friends if we were to meet in person. It’s hard to mind-meld over text post.

28. On a scale from one to ten, how hard is it for someone to get under your skin?
