He'd spoken with all of the hero's at their one year anniversary. He'd gotten updates and stories and trinkets. Yet one question burned in his mind one satisfaction had not been filled. He saw her there, upon her throne powerful yet gentle. Majestic and absolutely gorgeous in more ways than he deemed normal. He approached her nervously. "My lady, if I may can I ask one more question of you." She smiled at him kindly appreciating his consideration of her and nodded. "You may." She answered. "You always talk about what the inquisition has gave you, but what is the one thing it took from you, stole really, that you have accepted you will never get back. I want to know of your greatest sacrifice to the world." He asked passionately.
She stiffened to mull over his words. She lost... everything. She cannot go home to her family, for she is now required here. She lost her arm and thus she lost her way of living. She lost her love and herself with him... She knew what her answer was.
"Sleep." She replied shortly. "Sleep?" He replied trying to understand. "Yes, hollow dreamless, uneasy sleep has been my ultimate plague." She stated surely. "I imagine the fear of him returning is overwhelming." He replied. "Actually, it is more the fear of never seeing him again," She answered, her eyes locked onto the distance. "I spend all my night's looking for him. Hunting really. I could chase his visage until sunrise, and somehow the gap between us never closes." He wrote her words down eagerly. "Who is he?" He asked curiously. "I'm not sure I ever really knew... nor that I ever will." She replied lowering her gaze to meet his. He nodded and quietly made his way out to the courtyard. Throwing on his coat he started making his way across the bridge. He reached into his shirt and pulled out his necklace. The old blackened bone was cold to the touch. He sighed allowing his mirage to melt away. Who says it was better to have loved and lost he wondered to himself as he made his way across the icy bridge away from the fortress. He wished he had never loved her at all.
