The Gamesters of Triskelion is not a good Star Trek episode but it's a fascinating one and I'm green with envy over the alternate timeline where George Takei was available for its filming. as is, it's at "uncomfortable heterosexual horny nonsense; enthrallingly bad." Sulu's presence would have taken it to "uncomfortable heterosexual horny nonsense; so bad it's hilarious and amazing." i love Chekhov but he doesn't have Sulu's optimism or penchant for swashbuckling and that's what this episode needed (aside from, y'know, taste and a couple sensitivity readers, but there's really no rescuing it on that front)
i did not like this episode but unfortunately I'm going to be thinking about it for the rest of my life
