surprised by how many gay people there were in a play from 1952
Identity
I've struggled for a long time to feel legitimate claiming space in the queer-o-sphere; I pass as cis-het, and there's not a flag yet that accurately represents my particular patterns of gender expression and attraction. But I finally figured something out, and I wanted to share it here, because I think it's the closest I've come in a long time to stating something unequivocally true about myself: More than I am queer-coded, I am Kermit-coded. I identify with that calm, loving, wry, frank, kind center of the Muppetverse, the eye of a particularly fuzzy hurricane of zany chaos: Kermit the Frog.
If your life was a media franchise, would the audience know who you really are inside? Are you canonically queer? Queer-coded? Just have a h
My canon queer status:
Ok so like im excited for the sge movie but part of me (most of me) is not ready to go through the emotional turmoil with Agatha and Sophie; ya know, the whole friends-lovers-FUCKING TWIN SISTERS!! I don't think I can go through that again 😭😭
I hope in the movie they either establish their sisterly bond early on or retcon it altogether (the latter would be preferred coz they legit never bring it up again lol)
what in the cassandra clare was going on soman??? Like dudeee

Watching An American Tail: Fievel Goes West like:
Is it me or this Tiger fellow above is VERY queer-coded?
Vegatarian cat (which is TOTALLY not a metaphor)? Check
Girly, flamboyant mannerisms? Check
Wears flowers and is litterally a God(dess)? Check
Also, is it me or does the Don Bluth animators have a thing for big butts and big bellies?
I think it’s interesting how originally the queer coding of criminals/villains came about because of the Hays Codes in 1930s. Anything queer wasn’t allowed to be explicit so queer subtext became the norm for decades after. When queerness was portrayed it had to be in a negative light, like a coded villain, or with a tragic ending, ‘bury-your-gays’. I think a lot of us saw it growing up and didn’t realize it or maybe internalized that these characteristics were associated with evil. At the same time, I’m sure it resonated so this happened:

And now I've been on a kick where I try to find shows with the “Be Gay Do Crime” theme and just revel in how great some of them can be.
Killing Eve
Hannibal
Black Sails
Sense 8
And there are so many more. What started as a punishment in media is now producing great nuanced stories and I’m here for it!
