Coming Out to God - Chris Glaser: Daily Prayer Two.
O Holy One,
forgive me for seeking
embraces from others
before seeming the embrace
you so readily offer.
There are days, Holy One,
when I don't want to talk to you.
I run from your presence,
finding distractions
to keep me from looking into your eyes.
No time at work today, and tonight—
laundry, a meeting,
a nightcap with a friend.
But, damn!
When I do lift my downward gaze
you're inevitably there with smiling eyes,
a steadfast, loyal friend
wanting the best for me.
Why don't I want the best for myself?
Like Martha, I'm busy in the kitchen,
envious of Mary sitting at your feet,
choosing the better portion.
What's keeping me
from the better portion?
I am so busy with others' agendas
or my agenda
that I fail to discover
what your agenda may be.
Providentially,
I have caught glimpses of your will for me
despite myself and my crowded life.
Now I come out
to the full, abundant life you offer
as I follow your call.
Sorry you had to shout!
May I listen more carefully
to the nuances of this call.
Amen.
I feel like I needed to hear and read this prayer today. My guides have very much been calling on me to be a more active participant in my own life and to do the things that bring me joy and not worrying so much about being a people pleaser. this prayer seems to embody that fully. have a blessed day/night 🫶
