Harry’s chest felt as though sunlight had been poured into his veins. Every word Cedric said reverberated through his entire body, thrumming against his ribs like a bird trapped in a cage.

“I—thank you.” Harry was utterly lost for words. Never had he felt like this when someone complimented him. Most of the time, during those rare instances where someone gave him a compliment, Harry was usually awkward and unaccepting of the kind words.

Now, he couldn’t explain why Cedric’s words felt so personal, so warm and so accepting.

“It’s just the truth.” Cedric gave a gentle smile.

“Hang on, there’s one thing I don’t understand.” He recalled. “I was at Quidditch practice against Ravenclaw and Cho told me you already had a date! And that you rejected her!” Harry exclaimed wildly.

Chuckling, Cedric gave an easy reply. “I promised I would go with you.”

“O-Oh.” Harry stammered, completely at a loss for words. “Sh. She said-”

“Don’t mind what she said. You’re the one I wanted to go with.”

Harry beamed at him, his face reddening even further. Finding his courage, Harry took a step closer to Cedric, eyes interlocked. His heart beating rapidly, he placed a gentle hand on Cedric’s shoulder and guided himself closer to him.

Cedric’s breath hitched at the proximity, and asked in a hushed whisper “Are you sure?”

“Gods, yes.” Harry breathed out.
