Who has to do homeschooling during their social isolation? 🏫 @Quartokids have been doing their best to come up with loads of extra content for kids to keep them entertained, and they were kind enough to send over some non-fiction books that will be great for parents to help in this challenging time. 📚 . The first one I wanted to share with you guys is Natural World! I love the overall look of this book. It’s very vintage-looking, and the illustrations are set up like school charts. (Also, the dust jacket unfolds into a giant poster of brilliant birds, pictured above 🐧) There are 67 charts spread over more than 100 pages! There is loads of information on each of the charts, but that also means there is quite a lot of text on each page, which means it’s meant for kids for over 8 or 9 years old.🦋 . The topics the charts cover are divided into three categories: habitats, species, and adaptations. You can read the book front to back, but you can also pick a random page. A lovely feature is that each page will provide you with page numbers for charts that contain information related to the page you just read!🐌🌿🐠 . Flock by Gemma Koomen . #QOTD: Do you like picture books?📖 . I’ve been toying for a while with thinking of different ways to include picture books on my instagram. I feel they don’t receive as much attention in the bookstagram community as other genres, even though we love pretty covers so much! And also, I really love picture books, especially the illustrations! So I’ve decided to try out a new #WeeklyIllustratorHighlight to shine a spotlight on some of my favourite illustrators! I picked my first feature based on one of the latest picture books I bought: Gemma Koomen! 🌳 I fell in love with her feed when I first came across it on Instagram, and I had been waiting for her online shop to open ever since, which happened just before Christmas. I managed to control myself and order one print and her debut picture book, Flock! Flock follows the story of Sylvia, a Tree Keeper who doesn’t like playing with the others. Then one day she befriends a baby bird called Scruff, and she just might find she enjoys having a friend. 🐦 . If I had to describe Gemma’s style in one word, it would have to be COZY, and the whole book screams that as well. I mean, who wouldn’t want to spend a day with ‘little people who stand as tall as your thumb and have heads the size of walnuts’?
