#quality trash

The previews for this drama were so intriguing. The daily life of Koreans and it basically explains why they like to drink so much. Don’t forget it features Key from SHINee. I was super excited to start watching this drama, because it also features GONGMYUNG and I love him too.

Cast: Ha Seok Jin (I would hit him if he was my teacher), Park Ha Sun (I feel like she plays the same person in every drama), Gong Myung (I wish his story lines would turn out better in dramas), Key (I feel like this is secretly who he really is), and Kim Dong/Young.

My Thoughts: I got to the second to last episode and then stopped. This drama was good for the first 30 minutes, but then we introduced quality trash guy. I HATED quality trash guy. Because that’s exactly who he was, trash. He was a horrible human being. He didn’t even fall in love with Park Ha Sun for the right reasons. It was like the scriptwriters thought that because they were the main leads they had to fall in love with each other. SECONDS LEADS EXIST TOO, YOU KNOW. The trash guy even thought really lowly about Park Ha Sun at first. I mean I know that happened in She Was Pretty also, but it’s not like he hated her in that drama. He was realizing that she had more potential. In Drinking Solo however it was all about telling her about how much she sucked at being a human being. I get the guy had emotional trauma and what not, but try not to do that with the person that you’ll eventually fall in love with. I sat there thinking why for the entire time.

Gong Myung by far was my favorite character in drama. I just loved how cute and caring he was. Key was a close second. Their characters actually had some personality when they weren’t drinking. I get that Gong Myung was a bit of a slacker, but it did not reach to the levels of Key slacking. I loved the insight I got to the life of a civil exam student, and let me tell you how happy I am to realize that I’m not one. Key and Gong Myung’s friend had tried everything in his power to study and it just wasn’t working out. His girlfriend even broke up with him too. I great plus to about this drama however was the cameo from Choi Minho. His storyline fit well to explaining why Key is as quirky as he is.

I basically sat there for an entire drama rooting for Gong Myung to win the girl. He spent more time with her, actually wanted to get to know her, and was just flat out better. But, no his stupid, piece of trash of a brother had to go and get the girl. I’m not sure on how everything turned out BUT IT SURE DID LOOK LIKE IT WAS GOING TRASH’S WAY. Key story was a little upsetting also, but he seemed like he had the better chance of getting the girl. Other than the fact that he was a total idiot and would be a disgrace to his family. The drama showed many of the drawbacks of what it’s like to be living in the Korean society. I liked that it showed how difficult it was to teach and be interesting, and it showed how hard it was to be a student and get a job. However it totally missed the point on romance.

There were some really good scenes in the drama, but I feel like it was a bit pointless to watch. They kept dragging things out and created conflicts that was pushing nothing plot wise. I wish they had done more with Gong Myung’s and Park Ha Sun’s characters and not have tortured me so much with quality trash’s problems.
