Oh, FUCK YEAH. I am physically unable to read the Britt/Kato dynamic as anything else but 1) gay, and 2) with Kato being the leader of the whole heroic enterprise. He is without doubt the more capable of the two of them, and as someone from a less privileged background, he would have a more personal motivation than Britt does. Your version of their origin story would work extremely well for those two.

OH SHIT okay Richie sees this shirt and goes “ayyy 69 lmao“ and buys it along with the 420 shirt because I like to assume Richie just knows how to convert hex and binary to decimal  but then he wonders what ASCII 69 is and looks it up and sees it’s E and thinks E IS FOR EDDIE BITCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ben and Eddie really like his shirt and ask him what it says He tells them both that it says 69  Ben spills orange juice or sth on his own shirt during the sleepover and since he liked the binary shirt so much Rich just gifts him the hex shirt  THEn, the next day he goes to the same store and buys the shirt that says 01010010, which is ASCII 82 which is R and then he gives it to Eddie :) He tells Eddie that the store only had some unfunny number like 82 left but Eddie is happy to recieve the gift anyways :))) I like oblivious Eddie so much.  He doesn’t know that they’re wearing R + E shirts :) ALso since we’re so close to the 14th of February lets just assume Richie buys him the shirt on Valentine’s Day. Eddie isn’t suspicious at all
