!!!!! Could it be another Python Stan?! You aren’t a bother at all, it makes me super happy that you enjoy my blog! For the time being I’ll just indulge myself and write for Python alone (my bias is strong)

Python + B eauty - What do they admire about their s/o? What do they think is beautiful about them? + E qual - Are they the dominant one in the relationship, or rather passive?

·       It’s definitely his s/o’s smile that he admires so much. The first time he saw them smile it just melted his heart

·       There’s a certain quality to their smile that gives it such a profound effect on Python. Maybe they smiled at some kittens or puppies, how the joy and excitement makes their eyes close up or that cute wrinkle that forms on their face. Maybe his s/o has a dimple or two

·       The effect is amplified if he’s the cause for their joy. A joke, a story, maybe a little trinket, or that time he took his s/o to watch a clear and starry night sky. That wonder, awe, and excitement on their face, how their lips arced upwards. They were far more breath-taking than the view

·       Physical attributes like legs, butts, and whatever, well, Python isn’t picky so he appreciates everyone in all shapes and sizes but a genuine smile is what really melts this snek’s heart

·       He’s not the dominant one, he’ll call the shots if he has to but usually he doesn’t take the lead in most aspects of the relationship

·       Python’s rather flexible in a relationship and doesn’t complain much. He thinks he’s pretty darn lucky that someone is willing to put up with him so his s/o has their way most of the time

·       The only situations I can think of where in he’s more dominant is 1.) bedroom, only if his s/o is timid in that department. Though Python will definitely help build his s/o’s confidence and help them out of their shell. Easier to spice things up in bed when both parties aren’t apprehensive

·       Other situation where I can see him being more forward is finances. When he was single, he could spend all his coin Willy-nilly but now there’s a future that might need saving up for

My theory is that Apollo wasn't responsible, or at least solely responsible, for Hal's curse. I will explain my reasoning shortly, but I think it's benificial to look at how the text explains the curse.

This is how Hal explains his curse at the beginning, through the voice of the leucrotae:

"I have lost count [of how long Hal had been trapped]. Decades? Because my father is the god of oracles, I was born with the curse of seeing the future. Apollo warned me to keep quiet. He told me to never share what I saw because it would anger the gods. But many years ago... I simply had to speak. I met a young girl who was destined to die in an accident. I saved her life by telling her the future."

...

"[The gods] don't like mortals meddling with fate," ... "My father cursed me. He forced me to wear these clothes, the skin of Python, who once guarded the Oracle of Delphi, as a reminder that I was not an oracle. He took away my voice and locked ne in this mansion, my boyhood home. Then the gods sent the leucrotae to guard me. Normally, the leucrotae only mimic human speech, but these are linked to my thoughts. They speak for me. They keep me alive as bait, to lure other demigods. It was Apollo's way of reminding me, forever, that my voice would only lead others to their doom." (24–25)

So, Hal genuinely believes that Apollo is the one who cursed him, at least at the beginning. But, we see something shift in him after seeing Luke's fate. His immediate reaction to seeing Luke's fate is that "[h]e yanked his hands away and stared at [Luke] in terror" (42). Luke even notes that he, "could swear the old man was terrified of me now" (43). It's clear, based on what we know from The Last Olympian, what Hal saw was Luke's part in the war, and specifically his hosting Kronos, as evident in the way he describes what he saw: a sacrifice, a choice, and a betrayal (42).

This vision is what allows Hal to see truly what had happened. When Luke asked what scared Hal so badly, he responded, "I think I finally understand why I was cursed... Apollo was right. Sometimes the future really is best left a mystery" (48). This vision changed the vengeful Hal shown just that morning into the Hal who's last words as he burnt down his home as well as the leucrotae were the battle cry, "For Apollo! (50)"

I'll talked a little bit about how Luke misconstrued Hal's message of promise in my earlier post about Alison Simms, so I won't go into further details on that in this post, instead focusing back on my initial claim: that Apollo wasn't solely responsible for Halcyon's curse.

As shown in the excerpts, Hal does genuinely believe it is Apollo, even as he starkly learns to accept his curse as well as his fate. And I do think, at least most of the time, it was genuinely Apollo there, but I think that Apollo was forced to curse him, or that someone in the form of Apollo was the one who did the initial curse, while the true Apollo is left to pick up the scraps.

Apollo is, overarchingly, a good parent. He loves his children; he gives them gifts:

"That was my last sonic arrow," Michael [Yew] said.

"A gift from your dad?" [Percy] asked. "God of music?"

Michael grinned wickedly. (184)

and Will notes how odd it is that Apollo hasn't visited dreams in Blood of Olympus:

"We don't know what's going on at Delphi," ... "My dad hasn't answered any prayers, or appeared in any dreams... I mean, all the gods have been silent, but this isn't like Apollo. Something's wrong" (135–135).

And at multiple points throughout Trials of Apollo we see this immense love for his children, that it's far too many for me to even quote as evidence.

The only of his children, besides Hal, who is not fiercely devoted to him is Trophonius, who, as I said earlier today, was a victim of circumstance. Trophonius used his powers for thievery, and Apollo let him suffer the consequences of his actions; which lead to him cutting of Agamethus' head so that the king couldn't identify his body. And even though Trophonius hates Apollo, Apollo still is shown to love his son, and has some guilt about how it happened, even if what he did was what he, at the time, thought was best, since Trophonius had already done something illegal and wanted to be bailed out.

Hal's situation is similar, yet polar opposite, of Trophonius'. Hal, too, went against what was expected of them, but Hal's, unlike Trophonius' was for the betterment of another, rather than himself. Yet Trophonius' "curse" is consequences without divine intervention: if he had any mortal parent, he would have suffered the same fate. Hal's is, at it's core, a byproduct of being Apollo's son. No other parentage could have led Hal to his fate, and it is truly a curse, no if, ands, or buts.

Hal knew Apollo as a child, this much is evident from the aforementioned quotes. Apollo had warned Hal of his fate as a child, and the dangers of his powers. He told him if he shared it would anger the gods. Not him, the gods. It's curious wording. While Apollo is a god, if he was refering to himself, would it not be more striking to say to Hal that telling the future would anger me? Why envoke the other gods at all if he's going to be the one to enact the punishment?

Curiously, which I've never seen mentioned before, is the timeline. While Rick Riordan's years are wonky, Hal is approximately 60 years old, or looks at least. While he doesn't know how long he's been locked away, it has been decades at least. Luke is 14, Thalia's 12, and Annabeth (and by extension Percy) are 7. Beryl is an 80's actress, which makes sense timelinewise if Percy and Annabeth are 12 approximately in 2005, placing the date of the encounter with Hal at around the year 2000. Hal, therefore, was born after World War 2, and therefore after the oracle speaking of the Great Prophecy and Hades cursing the oracle because of Maria's death. In fact, Hal's childhood had to have been within ten to fifteen years of the curse, which for gods is a blink of an eye. The gods are especially apprehensive about prophecies and the future now with this great prophecy looming over their head. Apollo knew the other gods would not be favorable to a child of his with prophecy powers, and wanted Hal to lay low, especially since he already had a cursed oracle recently. This could be a longshot, but it's worth noting nonetheless. It shows the other gods have motive to distrust prophecies when Hal was a child.

Back to Apollo, throughout the five books in his POV he never, once, mentions Hal Green, even when speaking about Trophonius and having a child who hates him, even when thinking about his father and his own experience with fatherhood, even when thinking that his children don't deserve him and that he could be a better father. Halcyon's curse was brutal, yet Apollo never mentions his name once. He speaks of Zeus' punishments for disobeying, but never once mentions or wrestles with the idea that a son of his is stuck luring children to their death, wearing the shedded skin of Python, and only able to talk through leucrotae? And was stuck there for decades? Is that not odd, and honestly out of character given how much he tries to do better by his children than his father does to him?

Of course, a reason could be that Rick Riordan forgot about Hal, but where is the depth in that? To me, it is more interesting if Apollo had no say in the punishment of Hal. If it was more a punishment for himself, than it wouldn't be something for him to feel guilt about.

Now, if it wasn't Apollo, who do I think was the one who cursed Hal? To me it is pretty clear: Zeus. Zeus is apprehensive of prophecies: he ate Metis because he was told a son of his and Metis would overthrow him, he refused to sleep with Thetis since her son was said to be stronger than his father, and he'd recently made a pact to have no children and attempted to kill Bianca and Nico on the off chance that the Great Prophecy referred to them. If Hal could forsee the fall of Zeus without being an oracle himself, that was a threat to Zeus.

And besides, Zeus has no apprehension about killing his grandchildren; he murdered Asklepios for his continous raising of the dead. And Hal is kind of doing the same thing? Saving a person from death.

Since Hal thinks Apollo is the one that punished him, Zeus couldn't have outright done it if it was him which leads me to the least concrete part of this theory, as I see there being two possibilities:

Zeus took the form of Apollo when he cursed Hal

Zeus forced Apollo to curse Hal himself

Let's start with the first one: Zeus is obviously physically capable of turning into Apollo, gods can appear as any form they'd like. And as for why, I find that pretty straightforward. Zeus doesn't want people to know it's him. Despite being scared of prophecies, Zeus is the king of the gods, he is the god of gods and men, he is the strongest being. He doesn't want people to think that he felt threatened by a little boy, much less Hal himself. Appearing as Apollo gives the allusion that Apollo is angry with Hal for disobeying him, and gives the other gods the allusion that Apollo is enacting justice because someone, not an oracle, is using prophecy. This is what I mean when I said earlier that the "Apollo" in the story from Hal may not have been Apollo 100% of the time.

Also, is it not odd that Zeus' aegis, something that can only be claimed by a child of Zeus, was locked away in Hal's house? That cannot be a coincidence. The leucrotae are guarding Zeus' treasure, not Apollo's, Zeus's.

For that second point, it's basically that Zeus had manipulated Apollo into believing that he had to punish Hal or else it would be worse for him. Given Octavian, it's clear Zeus has no qualms about punishing Apollo for his children/descendants failures. Zeus also probably would tell Apollo he could never tell Hal the actual reason for the punishment.

I personally believe the most likely is that Zeus did the physical cursing: the python skin clothes, the missing voice, and the quarantine, while Apollo delivered the leucrotae under manipulation. I believe I doubt that Zeus would fully trust Apollo to enact the punishment exactly how he wants and not soften it for his son, and giving the leucrotae would still let Apollo see the punishment and feel the pain while not being able to mess up the plan.

As for Hal's epiphany about why he was punished, wouldn't it be interesting if he saw Apollo's fate of the wars in Thalia's vision? That he saw her helping a mortal Apollo punished for a child's crime? Yes, he also saw Luke working for Kronos and that scared him, but maybe there was also something about Gaea and Octavian too.

There's two ways Hal could have interpreted this: one, he realized that Zeus punished him but didn't want to say it because Luke already was planning a coup, or two, he thought Apollo punished him because if he didn't Apollo's punishment would be would be so much worse.

Also I was thinking about why he would talk to his legacy if he hated Rome. Well he did it to gain power so he could set everything straight about athenide to Romans, and get them to stop displaying her naked/no face. And get both camps to combine peacefully. Gaea intervened.

Between moments of Apollo communicating with Octavian, gaea would assume his form and continue to steer the convo towards Greek vs Roman. And that scene where will says to Octavian that Apollo would never be asked if he talked about athenide. Which gaea wouldn't.

Anyway back to Lester arriving at camp bc Zeus didn't take his answer well. He can not stop talking about athenide. Someone does something? Athenide did this, she did that. Ect. Finding some stuff to make art and songs he remembers about her.

Or make it angst. While mortal Lester doesn't remember much of athenide and is just trying to paint her face and Zeus took his memory of loyalty after all rome has done to destroy her face - so he stays near Athena's statue and remind himself of what loyalty looks like

I don't think Apollo would ever touch Rome with a ten foot pole so any claim that Octavian has of being a descendant of Apollo would be a load of crap but undeniable since gods don't have DNA; New Rome would just think Octavian is a shit augur.

Whatever Octavian is communicating with, it's not Apollo.

Chapter 6

“I killed you twice! How do you keep coming back?!” Yelled Betelgeuse as he, Lydia, and Astrid made their way down the stairs.

“When you want revenge anything is possible.” Delores answered in her heavy Italian accent. From behind her Samantha appeared.

“I’m sorry Astrid.” She whimpered, her makeup smudged like she had been crying.

“What did you do?!” Astrid questioned her.

“We had a seance and she appeared asking for someone named Betelgeuse.” She explained in a small voice. At the sound of his name, Betelgeuse shrieked and covered his head. “Don’t say that!”

“Just get out of here Sam!” Astrid ordered her. “She killed them Astrid…” The young girl told her. “What?!” Astrid couldn’t believe it. Only a few weeks ago she had seen the Samantha and her friends walking around town, now they were dead.

“Go! Hurry!” Astrid insisted. She nodded her head and turned to run, but Delores grabbed her by the arm and pulled her back.

“I don’t think so.” She pulled the girl close and began stealing her soul. You could see it in the air as it slowly left her body. “No!” Astrid screamed as Delores dropped Samantha’s shrunken body onto the ground. She couldn’t believe her eyes. Samantha and her friends always bullied her, but she never wanted them to die like that.

Delores turned back to Betelgeuse and took a step forward, her arms outstretched. “Come here, darling. Give me a kiss.”

Lydia stepped forward in front of Betelgeuse. “No fucking way!” Betelgeuse’s lips curled into a proud smile and tears formed at the corners of his eyes. He couldn’t believe she was actually defending him.

“You! I know who you are. You are the woman my husband thinks he is in love with.” Delores said, pointing at Lydia.

“I ain’t in love with you! You killed me remember?” Betelgeuse shot back.

“Yes, but you killed me before I got what I wanted and nothing is going to stop me from getting it now.” She declared, taking another step forward.

“No you’re not!” Lydia shouted standing her ground even though Delores did intimidate her a little. Astrid stepped forward as well.

“You know you’re beginning to bug me.” Delores glared at Lydia and with a wave of her hand she sent her flying across the room and into the wall.

“Lydia!” Betelgeuse cried as he watched her slide down the wall and onto the floor, lying there unconscious.

“Astrid, go help your mom! I’ll take care of her.” He told Astrid, turning to Delores his eyes flashing dangerously at his ex wife.

“Two can play at this game.” He growled, snapping his fingers making two black and white striped pythons appear and wrap themselves around her legs, quickly slithering their way up towards her neck hissing loudly at her as they went. She didn’t appear frightened in the least, instead she pulled them off of her and tossed them into the air, turning them into hawks instead.

“Get them!” She ordered them sending them in Lydia and Astrid’s direction. Betelgeuse waved his hand once more making a bolt of lightning shoot through window striking both the birds dead.

This wasn’t working, Betelgeuse thought. He had to figure out a way to get rid of her once and for all. Chopping her up and having her get eaten by the sandworm didn’t work. What would?

His looked around the room for something, anything that might help him defeat her. His eyes fell upon the fireplace. He smiled. Fire! That’s it!

Suddenly, the fireplace lit up with bright green flames. “There’s only one way to get rid of a witch like you. Burn em.” He retorted sending a fireball in her direction. It missed her by mere inches crashing into the wall beside them instead. Quickly the fire spread across the wall and up the curtains.

He sent another one flying her way, but she dodged that too, then another, and soon the whole room was alight with flames. “Oh come on!” He groaned, punching the air in disgust.

“Enough!” Delores uttered pushing her hands towards him, there was a loud bang, and Betelgeuse was knocked off his feet. He sat up, letting out a sigh, his shoulders slumping in defeat. Maybe he should just let her take his soul and get it over with? He thought feeling hopeless. No, then she would just move on to someone else probably Lydia and Astrid. He had to end this, but how?

Betelgeuse looked up at the ceiling praying for an answer. He noticed the beams beginning to snap and more of the second floor becoming exposed with each passing second. Thats when it hit him. If this didn’t work, he didn’t know what would, but it was worth a shot.

“BJ! We have to get out of here.” Astrid called out, her voice sounding muffled and distant. He looked over at her and shook his head. From his expression she could tell just what he was thinking.

“No! No! You can’t!” She pleaded, tears streaming down her face. Betelgeuse gave her one of his usual smiles, the ones he usually gets when he’s planning on doing something mischievous, and winked at her. Before she could say anything else, he snapped his fingers making her and Lydia disappear.

He slowly rose up from the floor, dusting himself off. Betelgeuse and Delores now stood face to face in the center of the room. “Now, you are mine.” She spoke in a low triumphant voice, leaning towards him.

“I will never be yours, but we started this together and now we’re gonna finish it together. Arrivederci bitch!” Her eyes widened looking both confused and frightened as Betelgeuse took her in his arms and kissed her. She tried to pull away but he wouldn’t let her go. She wanted to scream, but his lips were pressed hard against her’s. It was like time had slowed down as little by little the house fell down around them, the wood creaked loudly like it was letting out one final scream, and then collapsed.

Lydia and Astrid watched on the lawn as what was left on their house went up in flames, reduced to nothing, gone along with Betelgeuse. They stood there in silence, holding each other.

Clouds appeared overhead but instead of snow, it brought a heavy rain. Before long the flames had died out, leaving nothing but ashes behind. Lydia got up and ran over towards the pile of charred wood that was once the ghost house. Desperately she searched for Betelgeuse throwing aside anything that got in her way.

“Where is he?!”

“He’s gone, mom.” Astrid put her hand on her mother’s shoulder trying to comfort her.

“He can’t be!” She sobbed pushing aside another board. Underneath, she spotted something with black and white stripes and picked it up. It was his jacket. It was a little burnt, but still remained intact. She held it close for a moment thinking about him.

Maybe if she called him? That always worked, she thought. “Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice!” She waited and looked around, but there was nothing. She half expected to hear his voice call out, saying something like “Gotcha didn’t I?” but he didn’t. He was gone.

She was about to give up when Astrid called her attention to something lying on the grass across from them. She could just make out the hints of green in his hair in the dark.

They quickly darted towards him hoping he was all right. They saw that he had several cuts across his face and his shirt was torn in several places. “BJ?” Lydia whispered, gently pushing the hair out of his face. He remained quiet and motionless.

“Betelgeuse?” Nothing.

Astrid placed her hand over her mouth.

“This isn’t funny. Wake up.” Lydia implored her voice cracking, nudging him. Still nothing.

Astrid was right. He’s gone, this time for good. She could feel her heart ache the longer she looked at him. Seeing him like this felt so wrong. He always had so much energy, so much life. Did Delores steal his soul? She wondered, holding his hand. For so many years she feared his return and now she can’t picture life without him. She never even got to tell him how she really felt.

Carefully, she leaned over him, their faces so close that if he could breathe she would feel it, instead all she could feel was the cold dampness coming up from the ground. “I love you Betelgeuse.” She spoke in a soft voice, hoping that somehow, somewhere he would hear her. Then she placed her lips gently upon his, lingering there for a few seconds before turning away and closing her eyes, unable to look at him for another second.

“Lyds?” A familiar voice spoke. A voice that wasn’t her’s or Astrid’s. She opened her eyes and saw Betelgeuse looking up at her, only he looked different than he had a couple minutes ago. He had messy blonde hair, blue eyes, and was no longer pale and dead looking with mold all over him. Did true love’s kiss work after all?

She let out a gasp and pulled him into a hug. “I thought I lost you.” She cried into his shoulder.

“It’d take a lot more than that to get rid of me babes.” She noticed her voice wasn’t as gruff as it used to be.

Slowly they got up off the ground, still holding on to each other. Lydia took a moment to examine his features. Betelgeuse felt his cheeks becoming hot under her gaze. “Whatddya think?” He asked nervously. She tilted her head and gently stroked the side of his face. He leaned into her hand and placed a quick kiss on her palm.

“Does this mean you’re mortal again?” She asked.

“I think so. There’s one way to find out.” Lydia immediately caught on to what he meant. She was hesitant at first. She didn’t want him to go.

“It’ll be ok.” He assured her. She quickly looked at Astrid, who gave her a slight nod to continue.

“Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice…” They all held their breath as she spoke it one more time. “Beetlejuice.” Nothing happened. He didn’t disappear or change. It was finally over.

He let out a sigh of relief. No longer would he disappear if someone said his name too many times and he was going to test that even further with Lydia later. Right now, he would settle for another kiss. One he would actually be awake for.

Gently, he wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her close. Lydia could feel blush forming on her face as they stared into each other’s eyes. “I love you.” He told her, planting a kiss on her lips. His lips felt just as soft as they did the first time she kissed him, only warmer. Lydia slowly ran her hands up his chest and around his neck, deepening the kiss. He let out a soft moan as she did so. How long he waited for this moment to finally be able to kiss her.

Astrid suddenly felt awkward and looked away, fiddling with her phone instead trying to let them have their moment. They deserved it after all. Finally Betelgeuse and Lydia had their happy ending.

“Wanna get hitched babe?” Betelgeuse asked when they had to stop for air. Lydia chuckled and kissed him again. Same old Betelgeuse. “Hell yeah!”

Part 5 of Just a Glimpse

Mary watched you, your hands gripping the arms of the chair. “She’s not moving from this chair, Dean.”

“She’s going to have to!”

“Why?” As if on cue, Sammy’s fussing came through the monitor. “…There’s a baby in the bunker?”

You clenched your jaw. “I told you! My son.” Moving to get up, she moved forward with the gun. “I’m going to my son.”

“Mom! Let her get to him! We’re heading to the car now.” Dean told her, rushing.

Dean had the phone between his shoulder and ear as he started the car. Hearing a gunshot, he froze.

(Also, can you impart more knowledge about Duke Devlin? I feel as thiugh there's something downright hilarious coming up with him.)

Ok the reason I haven't talked about Yugi's parents is that I uh. Can't make up my mind about what is going on with them. The short vesrion is that they're unable to care for Yugi so Solomon is his Legal guardian, and will not be appearing in the fic unless I settle on something by the time I get to season 4 or so. I was originally going with one flavor of Angst, then my brain supplied an entirely different flavor of angst and now I'm not sure which I like better. Option 1 would kick Marik (and everyone else but mostly Marik) in the guts while he's down, Option 2 would rip out Seto Kaiba's Heart. But probably neither will come up.

DUKE on the other hand has a fantastic part to play yet. He has a passing mention in the next chapter because he (indirectly) knows Sergei and Misha, and this connection will cause ABSOLUTE BEDLAM during Battle City. Some Duke Fun Facts:

Whatever the Opposite of a Vegan is, that's Duke. Man lives on caffeine and pork products, which has done something WEIRD to his metabolism so he's still a scarecrow.

"Duke Devlin" is a name he picked out for himself because it slaps that's why.

Like in the Manga, Duke's "Dad" lost a card game to Solomon Moto and has been wearing a fucked up clown mask since. Unlike the Manga, these two events aren't actually related. What happened was that Solomon beat Duke's Dad in a card game, had a GREAT time at the wedding they were both attending, and had sex with SOMEONE in Duke's family, while Duke's Dad got that clown mask stuck on his head in an Improv Theater Accident and then... never did anything about it. Duke travelled to Domino City in part to kick Yugi's ass for fucking up the international distribution of his game and also to see if they were Related.

Post-Fic, Duke and Bakura team up to release a new module of Monster World, "Catacomb of Abominations" which is generally met with rave reviews like "Even with fudging my rolls and eliminating half the encounters, this module killed all my players in 20 Minutes. 10/10" "I didn't have a debilitating fear of rabbits before this game, but I sure do now! 10/10" "I'm a quantum physicist and certified forensic accountant, and the math made me cry. 11/10"

Actually, since they're both huge TTRPG Nerds, Duke and Bakura become rather close. It still takes YEARS for Duke to realize that the reason Joey rolls Bakura's Dice for him whenever they play is not because of his Hand Injury but because Bakura is a master of stage magic and sleight-of-hand and could roll whatever results he wanted entirely subconciously. It takes Bakura years to realize that when Duke was complaining about "Having To Learn Python" he meant the coding language and not How To Talk To Large Snakes.
