“BREAKING NEWS: The Hope Diamond is missing!” A newspaper clipping falls to your feet as you wake up in an empty room with only one door and a small peephole in said door. You read the small piece of paper and looked around. Had you been framed? Were you in jail?
“Don’t look so surprised, Player. You asked for this.” The Game Master’s voice echoed in the metal room, making you jump. “You have one final puzzle before I let you go. Of course if you fail, you may never see daylight again.”
A chill ran up your spine, perhaps from the chill in the room. Everything the Game Master did and said was somehow the coldest thing you could have heard. “Oh c’mon, don’t look at me like that.” He said as you spun around. A figure in a fedora stood behind you, apparently you were in a cell, a layer of bars were between you and him.
“Where am I?” You couldn’t help but ask. It was a rational question, after all.
“My land.” Even though his face was hidden, you could practically see his grin. “Your puzzle lies ahead.” He reached through the bars— not through the gaps, but the bars themselves like he was a ghoul— and plucked the paper from your fingers. “You job is to find the Hope Diamond hidden somewhere in this warehouse. There are six possible endings, only one being your success. The others…well, I’ll cross that bridge when we get there.” He seemed to wink with his voice.
“You have to let me out to, genius.” You smarted before he wordlessly opened the lock on your cell and swung open the door, vanishing in the movement. You were on your own now.
