The Purity Movement is truly amazing (aka the Spinster Movement) They created infrastructure for girls to keep them out of prostitution, no literally. In towns they created houses to feed and cloth girls that were at risk, and properly introduced them into the workforce for their independence in several cities. They strove for more unmarried women (to make it their choice), they fought against men and cried out against sex worker violence and discrimination, when men passed laws legalizing raping wives, they created a new type of marriage called free love, they specifically unapologetically LOUDLY pinned the blame on male sexual abuse on men, they created ideology to complement that of Christianity specifically so women can say no and get more control of their lives, they demanded justice for pedophile victims, they got men to be allies in protecting, defending and respecting women on a fundamental rights basis, they DEMANDED that the church take notice and action to protect women, and created child sex education literature that also taught equality to protect children. And..so much more? I’m not even halfway through? And all of that got swept under the rug, as “hysterical religious uptight frigid prudes” and that was a lie so easily bought.
