5th day of brush week - WRETCHED!
with cutiepie (left) and artikula (right)
ohh i like this one!! tried to make it cool and not too simple too. you simply cannot go easy on this one. it has to have all that Woaw Boom Punch Roar! artikula's hair and shackles were inspired by susie deltarune. susie deltarune thank you. i think its funny how cutiepie's design is simpler here, usually its the other way around. but it fits!

Puppetland (1999) is the second New Style game, by Pagan Publishing’s John Tynes. The game seeks to balance the innocence of bedtime stories with horror, casting players as puppets trying to defeat Punch and save Maker’s Land. The tone winds up being very reminiscent of what the Fables comics would land on in 2002.
Puppetland is another game with extremely brief rules. First, game sessions last an hour. Second, players only speak in character as their puppets, and speak their actions (this seems a bit stilted but it actually does take on the feel of a storybook in practice). Third, that the game is collaborative and free form. Puppet are created out of four different templates (finger, hand, shadow and marionette) and defined by a short list of things they can and cannot do. Players finish up by drawing their puppet on a jigsaw puzzle schema — if bad things happen to them, or they do things they are not supposed to, puzzle pieces get filled in. When all the pieces are filled in, the puppet is destroyed. Play proceeds with puppets monologuing their actions and the puppet master narrating around them. There is very little in the way of mechanics for resolution. And that’s fine!
Puppetland forms up another important piece of the shift to narrative design in RPGs. Like Munchausen, it often feels a bit too free form, but such are first steps.
The book has a second game on the flip side, Power Kill, a meta-game that recontextualizes RPGs as sort of group therapy for mentally unbalanced fictional murderers. It serves as a brief and interesting commentary on violence in RPGs, which Violence enthusiastically expands on.
On ForeverVerse, Ivan Van Norman guides players through various RPGs. Every few weeks, the characters are sucked through a portal, drifting into a new universe (switching the game to a new RPG). Will our characters ever make it home? On this episode of ForeverVerse, Puppetland continues and we...

3rd day of brush week - GARDEN!
with cutiepie (left) and artikula (right)
cutiepie releases cuteness spores. shes totally normal. at this point i noticed how i oversimplify artikula's designs because she doesn't like pretty-fancy clothes and i decided to Really try and think of more interesting ways to make her cool.. i think i did great
BRUSH WEEK 2025 RESULTS! in this post i want to show off all my designs, point of some similarities & write an overall review of my experience drawing all this
- iirc i first designed artikula's cosmic and cutiepie's clean versions. i liked their brushes very very much. i think artikula looks incredibly silly in cosmic brush and cool in clean. meanwhile cutiepie is really cute in cosmic and kinda weird in clean.. its funny to me.
- i deliberately tried to mirror cutiepie's wretched & lovely versions! with black latex long sleeve & white easy labcoats. usage of 2 skulls in cutiepie's wretched version is questionable to me, but it doesnt look as good if you take either one of them. meanwhile in lovely version i think the usage of hearts is pretty balanced.
- this is just a little loredump. in puppetland the Plushies are made with more cutesy designs and more cutesy brains. theyre more silly and friendly and slow thinking. thats why artikula's expression changed from >:] to :0,she got softer. in garden brush cutiepie got a lot dumber 100%. she lived in the woods and has mushrooms in her brain.
- lagoon brush is a great place to talk about some Overall process. while drawing the designs, i got worried about several things: 1) i make cutiepie too cutesy, while her original design is not that at all. 2) i make artikulas designs too simple, because i cant imagine her being comfortable in lolita dress or something like that. 3) i make cutepie too complex because i feel more confident in dressing her up in different-different outfits.
and so i was thinking about it the whole time and tried to fight these problems. and i think the result is very good. even though artikula always wears pants here, thats like. okay. its different every time. she still looks cute when the brush requires it.
- i think my favorite Pair of designs is the Lovely Brush. i finished it last and i think its the experience of the rest 6 brushes that helped me make it cute and balanced. i really like garden & cosmic cutiepie, and plushie & clean artikula. others feel too complex for main character design XD
