Mataòssu? What’s that? It’s an obscure varietal grown in Liguria about 1200 meters from the ocean, planted in silty soils in a vineyard that was planted 85+ years ago by the Ruffino family. (They’ve only been making wines for 500 years or so.) • • The Mataòssu is hand-harvested, vinified in stainless steel, lees aged for 4 months, bottled unfined/unfiltered. After tasting this wine, I quit my job and moved to Liguria.
