Scarlet letter and Fahrenheit 451?
The Scarlet Letter - What’s your favorite word and what does that word mean?
Fahrenheit 451 - What’s your favorite book?
oh no sadly the answer to both of these questions is kind of,,, i don’t have one?
with words, like, they’re all just tools. and some are fancy fucking machines and some are hammers, and there are some really pretty hammers, but they’re still just tools and it doesn’t really matter as long as you can build something sturdy.
re:books......i just. i read so damn much. i cannot have a favorite.
i do however have some that Impacted me. in middle school i read this book called bird by bird because it was a book about how to write and at the time i was devouring any book about how to write i could find but it was secretly a book about how to live and it blew me away my first tattoo is gonna be the phrase ‘bird by bird’ because it’s something that really hit me.
another time also in middle school i read catch 22, i think just because it was hardback and had big font so it was fucking massive and i wanted someone to comment on how i was reading a book half my size (i am and always have been a partially functional machine running only on attention from others) but i read it in one sitting and ignored anyone who tried to talk to me about it (which i never did back then if i read in public it was to talk about it) and then like hid it until i had to return it to the library because it made me feel like my head was vibrating and i didnt want anyone to talk to me about it until i could process it. i still dont want anyone to talk to me about it because it has been so many years since i read it and iv never been able to open it again even tho i bought myself a copy so i dont even know if it was a good book i just know it was exactly what i needed to read and ill always love it for that.
in more recent years, maybe even the last two years, i read this fanfic that changed how i think about blame and trauma and recovery and it wasnt like perfect writing and id only rec it to a very close friend after giving a list of warnings and clauses but it sure struck me and it changed how i think about things.
theres also this one fanfic i read that had this experimental prose and was just so damn pretty the style was fucking Crucial to the story in a really cool way that experimental writing often fails to be imo and it added up to a story whose plot i dont even fucking remember but ill never forget the mood of reading it.
