This is how Trump is putting - or has put - us into a recession. Consumers sentiment falls, they cut back on spending, companies are forced to lay off US workers, and the cycle continues.

It took an excruciating amount of effort for Tim to pry his eyes open. The last he recalled was an animated conversation with Lucifer in the depths of Hell. Something about drapery and carpets...or some such. 

“Purple,” Tim mumbled as his hand instinctively felt around for his glasses.

“Red will clash with the lava that you have outside.” He adjusted his glasses and turned over in bed, then realised he was staring at the dilapidated ceiling of a cheap hostel somewhere in godforsaken America.

That had him shoot up with a start, eyes wide as he looked around. He was back again where he started...TWO YEARS AGO?! He looked at his arms, his legs, and patted himself down. Aside from feeling stiff and sore, he was pretty much the same just before he experienced that falling sensation through the mattress. Tim sniffed his ratty t-shirt and wrinkled his nose. It stank of sweat but there was no trace of sulphur or blood, or bone or acid pits.

“Hmm.” He looked out the window. It was late in the afternoon and his stomach began to rumble something fierce. How long had he slept?

“Can’t possibly be two years, I would have had bed rash or more importantly, would have been tossed out or be in a hospital.”

After all, he only paid for a couple nights here. Then the afternoon sun was blocked by a flurry of soft speckled feathers.

“Yoyo!” Tim was elated. He immediately forgot about his hunger and jumped to open the window. The owl stepped onto his arm and shoulder, and then began preening Tim’s messy hair. 

“How long have I slept?”

Yoyo hooted.

“Two days? That’s not too shabby. You won’t believe what happened! Or...didn’t happen. Hmm.”

It might have been a very vivid dream. Wasn’t his first rodeo in the Land of The Dreaming. He should get to the bottom of this, but his stomach complained again with a resounding growl.

“I really should eat first, then we’ll both take a gander at this, shall we?”

Yoyo hooted again.

Menschenrechtsverletzungen auslagern

Was wir vor 13 Jahren bereits als unrechtmäßig angeprangert haben, ist nun mit GEAS, der "Gemeinsamen Europäischen Asylpolitik", angeblich Recht und Gesetz geworden. Dazu wird - leider erst in einigen Jahren - der EUGh urteilen müssen.

Und es wird noch viel schlimmer, denn Netzpolitik.org schreibt: Griechenland und Frankreich lassen das UN-Mandat der Mittelmeermission IRINI gegen Waffenlieferungen auslaufen. Stattdessen unterstützt die EU nun auch das abtrünnige Ostlibyen mit Überwachungstechnik und der Ausbildung libyschen Personals, das dann Flüchtlingsboote abfangen soll. Es sind dann nicht mehr "europäische Beamte" von FRONTEX, die die Flüchtlinge "abwehren", sondern Milizen, denen jedes Mittel recht ist, wenn sie dafür Geld bekommen.

Statt den Waffenhandel übers Mittelmeer einzuschränken wird bei der Nachfolgemission von IRINI nun die Migrationsabwehr im Vordergrund stehen. Das steht in einem von der NGO Statewatch veröffentlichten Dokument das dem militärischen Komitee der „Europäischen Friedensfazilität“ in Brüssel zur Abstimmung vorgelegt wurde. Damit wird die Flüchtlingsabwehr zu einem militärischen Ziel der EU - während FRONTEX mit seinem bereits grenzwertigen Vorgehen immer noch eine Polizeibehörde war.

Dabei wird sich das neu IRINI nicht selbst die Hände schmutzig machen. Ihre Aufgabe ist die Ausrüstung und das Training der Milizen in einem maritimen Lagezentrum (Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre, MRCC) in der östlichen Hauptstadt Benghazi. In der libyschen Hauptstadt Tripolis existiert bereits seit 2017 eine ähnliche Einrichtung.

Pullback statt Pushback

Die vor allem vor der griechischen Küste üblichen Pushbacks von Flüchtlingsboot aufs offene Meer oder in türkische Gewässer hatte der Europäische Menschenrechtsgerichtshof in einem wegweisenden Urteil 2012 bereits für illegal verurteilt. Statt dessen wird es nun Pullbacks durch irgendwelche Milizen geben, denen ein solches Urteil wohl egal sein dürfte. Frontex muss diese Milizen nur noch mit den Daten ihrer Luftaufklärung versorgen und andere können sich die Hände schmutzig machen.
