Los Carpinteros, "Granada de Mano," 2004,
The sculpture takes the terrifying, destructive form of a hand grenade and completely reimagines it into a beautifully detailed, geometric wooden chest of drawers.
Each individual segment of the grenade's traditional fragmented outer shell serves as a functional, pull-out drawer.
This juxtaposition highlights the collective's signature theme: exploring the friction between utility and uselessness, and weaponized form versus domestic function.
By transforming a weapon of war into domestic furniture, they neutralize its violence through the calming, artisanal medium of finely carved Pine.
