I Believe In The Green Parade by Psynwav

Like in the second last song where Psynwav is "breakin' my back just to know my name", the latter choruses feature these bright pops of "that's not my name! That's not my name!" that's like - that's the inner girl stepping up to reject her deadname and put herself forward to find and claim her new name. The rest of the lyrics matter, but it's those sharp pops of female vocals that's just like. there she is. That's Psynwav shining through.

And one of the most prominent examples of this is in the second song, which is a mix of Rockstar by Nickelback, We Will Rock You by Queen and Danger Zone by Kenny Loggins set to the tune of Turning Japanese. Because near the end of the song, the first verse of All The Things She Said by t.a.t.u comes in - "I'm in serious shit, I feel totally lost, if I'm asking for help it's only because / being with you has opened my eyes, how could I have believed such a perfect surprise". That's actually the impetus to this thought of like - when the vocals are coming from a woman, that's the inner trans self speaking to the listener, while the male vocals cover a lot of emotional repression and telling the story of how Psynwav got through the emotional ups and downs of her transition.

And the emotional crescendo of this song is where all of the songs are building up to a fever pitch, Kenny Loggins goes high like "Highway to the DANGER ZOOOOONE" and t.a.t.u cut in partway through to go

THIS IS NOT ENOUGH!!!!!!

That is why I am so happy to post about how the creator of it, Psynwav, released a sequel to it this past Monday. Musical Transients is a perfect and fitting sequel, for you do not really need to listen to its predecessor to appreciate this extremely good work, but doing so allows you to see how the idea evolved. While Musical Tangents worked on an overarching theme of associative thinking in musical form that lent itself to different focuses, Musical Transients covers a more noticeable theme that carries over into each song, creating a bit more unity in the process. It also helps that, although the song count got bumped down from ten to eight, this is a more expansive experience since the length was multiplied by about one and a half by going from twenty four minutes to thirty six minutes. It provides so much while still clearly featuring the staple Psynwav elements of deep layering in songs, pitch shifting and sudden pace/vibe adjustments that allow for many different songs/genres to be included, and incredible mixing that allows song lyrics to be spliced together to create new meaning.

I think it is these elements of the mashup that naturally lend itself to the transgender themes in it, and while Pride Month is a fantastic time to release this, I think this album will have incredible staying power. While it does not personally speak to me (at this moment in time), it is very obvious that this is a quite meaningful piece of art that makes me feel so many different emotions when I listen to it, my initial listen was probably the first time I have genuinely ever shed at least one tear while listening to a mashup work. A personal piece of work for Psynwav, this mashup tells a deep story in the subtext, which is atypical for most mashup projects. It is a wonderfully emotional time, yet in multiple aspects, it can be objectively quite hilarious at points. To add onto this crazy concoction of emotions, listening to it makes me feel genuinely in awe of the quality of it, I feel like this may indeed be the greatest standalone mashup album I have ever listened to. Compared to anything else that may invade your eardrums today, I would love if you at least gave this a chance, because I would like to believe that you would not regret it if you did.

Hyperfixating on these 2 albums for like a week
