Reposted from @animal.ethics It is sometimes assumed that the suffering of nonhuman animals must not be very significant because these animals are not capable of deep #psychologicalsuffering like humans are. Instead, nonhuman animals are thought to live carefree in the moment. However, this is not true. Animals may experience great psychological suffering. Perhaps the most obvious is the fear of predators and other harms, which can be a constant intrusion into their lives. In addition, the physical suffering that animals go through can often be extremely severe. It is clearly not of fundamentally less significance than psychological suffering.
