Reposted from @animal.ethics It is sometimes assumed that the suffering of nonhuman animals must not be very significant because these animals are not capable of deep #psychologicalsuffering like humans are. Instead, nonhuman animals are thought to live carefree in the moment. However, this is not true. Animals may experience great psychological suffering. Perhaps the most obvious is the fear of predators and other harms, which can be a constant intrusion into their lives. In addition, the physical suffering that animals go through can often be extremely severe. It is clearly not of fundamentally less significance than psychological suffering. Social media is so strange. Maybe I mean to say smarter then we think. Im stressin about some things I need to get done but am having the hardest time getting started on them. I’ve done so many other projects instead. 😬 I decided to sit and scroll for 15 mins and then meditate on it. All of a sudden I am seeing many many ads for ADD / ADHD. I have not said one thing about it and have been mostly silent all day just working along. Does social media read minds now? #riseofthemachines #sentientbeings #adhd #scatterbrained #excited #ihaveshinyskin (at Mesa, Arizona) https://www.instagram.com/p/CUBm4JYl9-0/?utm_medium=tumblr

Reposted from @animal.ethics We may find it difficult to empathize with fishes and other aquatic animals since they are very different from humans physically, they live beneath the water, and we cannot perceive their vocalizations. However, numerous studies have shown that fishes have the capacity to suffer and feel pleasure, just like mammals, birds, reptiles and other animals. Fishes suffer pain and seek out positive experiences. It is estimated that somewhere between one and three trillion fishes are caught every year, and numbers for other aquatic animals could also be extremely high, at least a few hundred billion animals... Cherish Every Moment
I was happily going about my day this week scrolling through Instagram when I came across a post about the recent loss of Star at Jacobs Ridge Animal Sanctuary. Despite only meeting this beauty twice the post really affected me in ways I never expected. I watched as Julian drove along having to give the news of Stars passing to the followers of the sanctuary and despite wearing sunglasses I could feel the pain burning in his eyes. He continued to give the news to the followers and had to stop to take a breath in an attempt to disguise his obvious excruciating emotional pain. I stopped and I thought on this a while, it brings me back to a point where I often need to check in on myself, when I am perhaps being a scoundrel unappreciative of those around me or unappreciative of time with them. We take time for granted, we think it is here forever. In this life we share with human or non human we all share the same thing, Love, and when that physical form of love passes it affects us in ways that are unexplainable. Through a screen from a different country I could feel this mans pain and it was awful. So people, be the best version of ourselves we can be and share that love with others. Cherish every moment. Sleep tight beautiful star x
My Love for Animals
For as long as I can remember I have had an absolute love for animals. They bring me such joy, for me they are my calm, my sanctuary my safe place. Animals seem to have an inate built in intuition, they just know. Over the last few years I have visited many animal sanctuaries such as Jacobs Ridge, Hillside, Fars and Happyfields. One thing I noticed about certain animals thar were rescued from very poor conditions is the amount of trust they still have in humans despite the suffering they had endured, I watched them thought to myself “ if only we were that forgiving of each other”. When I watch animals I learn things, they teach us so many things about our inner calm and self. I watched as a deer that had been run over and lost its mother be raised by cockrel who now charges at anyone who goes near the deer. I became aware that they are not attched to species race colour creed or religion, they just be. They support not only their own kind but other kinds too and I think the human race can take a lesson from this, because if we all look after each other then we will all be ok.
Peace and love
