quite frankly i was disappointed that jace was revived at all - a white marty sue dies and then resurrects is such a tired and cliche plot. especially for the US tv. white guys are always invincible there

For Harry I can recommend Caper - mini webseries, still available on youtube, some Wong Fu shorts like The Last and Croutching Tiger 2 (I think he's one of the main characters there). There's also White Frog, where his character has a central role in the plot, but physically Harry is only present there for like 3 min, before dying in a car accident...

I’ve started watching Caper, and it’s a delight! Harry is such a sweet superhero. And Beth Riesgraf is another protagonist, which is equally wonderful! (I love Leverage.)

Yeah, and then they even admitted that they find Matt’s acting more “natural” and were surprised that lot of people think otherwise (in favor of Harry). I always find it suspect when people come for IR lgbt couples and compare them with white gay ships - we’ve seen that with Moonlight, The Get Down, Malec and quite a few more.

It’s so transparent...and just tiring. 

Also...no shade on Matt (forreal cuz I quite enjoy him) but l.m.a.o at the idea that his acting is more “natural” than Harry’s. Like...that is laughable to me. 

And frankly, it reveals that some people just do not understand Magnus as a character at all. (Or Alec’s, for that matter.)

Harry literally crafts Magnus from the ground up (posture, tonality, facial expression, hand gestures, etc.) to radiate the demeanor of an elegant, ever-changing, powerful, and empathetic immortal being. He makes you believe it. 

Harry also plays a man falling in love with a recently closeted, highly repressed gay man who is a former child soldier struggling with his own racial prejudices.

Like, sorry Harry and Matt don’t perform Malec like they’re fumbling white teenagers in the back of their dad’s borrowed car but that’s not their characters at all.

What works for (insert white gay ship here) does not always make sense for Magnus or Malec. Just straight up. Not unless you change the entire narrative and character backstory around him.

White guy stans always suffer from selective blindness when it comes to seeing their fave’s flaws. This IS a very good plot (hopefully the writers will make it right for once) and white fandom needs it especially. Through Alec they need to examine their own racial bias - eg. how they treat characters of color in this show, not just Magnus. But alas, most of them will refuse to see it. They’re already throwing fits about writers and fandom “mistreating” precious Alec

Agreed. Like, how long are we supposed to pretend like Alec, Jace, and Izzy didn’t grow up in a prejudiced and actively supremacist environment and therefor take in a lot of those values? All of them have made the rounds of being racist on the show. Every single one of them. Even Clary displays those prejudices and she didn’t grow up in the shadow world at all. 

All of them have dated, loved, or just generally been sexually/romantically intimate with downworlders but that doesn’t automatically make them not prejudiced.

And I don’t want to leave out Jocelyn cuz she was out of pocket a couple times too early this season, especially when you consider her and Luke.

Let Alec be racist in the story so we can see him move past it. Let Alec be racist in the story so we can see how that can affect an interracial relationship. Let Alec be racist in the story so we can engage fully with this universe’s race metaphor. Let Alec be racist in the story so we can see how Magnus handles that. 

Why can’t people just acknowledge that their favorite characters can also do shitty things? 

Mia being killed off has nothing to do with Gemma's career. It was a choice the writers made for their own reasons, according to their own interviews. tbh that person is giving me major red flags for a while now. all those posts about matt and harry lacking chemistry bc they don’t act like those white gays from those other shows… and now this. :/

Yeah, I saw those posts. They were hella suspect. 

And all the comment/reblog threads on them kept trying to couch it in some pro-malec, pro-lgbt, freeform-critical “concern” rhetoric but idk...it all seemed insincere and it basically boiled down to “I don’t find Matt and Harry compelling on screen together and I don’t know why.”
