The Price of Medicine
When I was part of a low deductible insurance plan, I had a $7.00 copay at Walgreens for my psoriasis medication, Clobetasol 0.05% spray. After switching to a high deductible plan, this same medication now costs $358.05 at Walgreens WITH my insurance company's discount. I called 5 different pharmacies for pricing without insurance. The prices for each pharmacy are as follows: 1. Walgreens ~$395 2. CVS ~$357 3. Wal-Mart ~$375 4. Target ~$411 5. Costco ~$332 In the long run, making the switch from the low to high deductible plans is worth it. I'm trying to be a smart shopper. After all, someone (whether insurance companies or patients) has to cover the bill right? The funny thing: I'm supposed to keep my stress low to prevent breakouts; but all these medication shenanigans seem to just add stress.
