do you have any advice on how you pair fonts? your latest eloise set is too good and you've paired many fonts together SO WELL. i find it hard to use more than 2 different fonts cohesively haha so i really admire your creativity and brain <333
hi anon!! i've been trying to come up with a satisfactory answer to this for too long and kinda failing because honestly, typography is something i struggle with. i know it may seem like i've got it down but i swear i spend just as long selecting fonts as i do making the rest of the gif. it really is just a long process of going through my fonts and literally seeing what works together, like i will create a blank canvas, write some words, and flick through fonts - then i can pair ones up that i feel work together and save some others i might like to use in the future. i guess when i do a lot of fonts in one gif i do a lot of pairing like with like, and by that i mean that i'm usually using serif or san serif fonts rather than mixing in lots of cursives. to me this makes it more clear in the sense that the fonts aren't overlapping each other, and hopefully this contributes to the overall cohesive-ness.
the other thing i've done over the years is just go and look at other people's typography for inspo, for example usergif has a typography tag which is great, and you can either look for similar fonts people have used or just ask them what fonts they are. for me this has helped because i've built up a long list of fonts, so when i go to pair things up i have a lot of choice which i personally need. but ultimately my strategy is put too much time into choosing fonts, doubt selections, get fed up and go 'that'll just have to do', and roll with it, which i'm afraid is not a satisfactory answer as a top top but hey, i hope there's something in here that can help you out!
