"Look, you all have girlfriends. Tell me what to do about this Andromeda/Phineus thing!"
Teague frowned. "Just because I'm with Aria doesnt mean I know how I did it."
Owen folded his hands behind his head and leaned back, smirking at me. "My love doctor expertise isn't free, my friend."
Isaac narrowed his eyes at me, deliberating before saying "Any advice I have wouldnt work for you."
I put my face in my hands. "Real helpful guys. Thanks."
I could tell the moment my friends noticed I wasn't alone, because everything in the room stopped. It was unnaturally still. After a long, painful moment, Isaac drawled "Damn Teague. You had one job."
"You told him?" Athena descended toward us, her eyes literally glowing with rage like silver fire. "You know outsiders are not permitted here. What could possibly be your reasoning for this grave oversight?"
It was like everything she said was intended to piss me off. Even Owen raised an eyebrow at that, cutting his eyes to me. I didnt rise to the bait. Instead I said "Do you really think I'm that stupid? Or maybe you think he is."
Pryce coughed, turning away from his divine half-sister so she couldnt see him crack up. Attie bit her lip. Isaac was giving Owen an odd look that I couldn't quite decipher. And Aria was looking at me, beautiful in her concern for my wellbeing at having an attitude with a war goddess.
The corners of Owen's mouth quirked up as Athena faltered for just a second. "I'm not stupid," he asserted. "But then, I guess you already knew that. Athena, right?"
She hesitated a moment, looking Owen up and down before looking back to me. She was still angry, but she wasn't glowing or reaching for a weapon, so I took that as a good sign. "You told him?"
"He mostly figured it out."
"He helped." Owen nudged my shoulder with a grin. "This group is gonna be loads of fun."
I can believe Pryce's fatal flaw is impulsiveness because he saw a shiny golden apple and decided to pick it and when the dragon tried to bite him he wanted to take ot home like holy crap what is wrong with you
Attie: I don't like that you're taller than me.
Pryce: yeah, you can't afford me.
Attie: what?
Pryce: because I'm such a high Pryce.
Attie: *punches Pryce*

Pryce figured everyone had a weapon that reflected their personality. Teagan and Jace had their swords that made them look cool and suave, and Teague's was a gift from his step dad which signified his rejection of his biological father. Aria had her bow and arrows because she didn't like to be in the middle of a fight. Attie had that spear befitting an Amazonian queen. But what did the dagger signify? When you were using a dagger against a sword, you had to be quick. You didn't have time to wonder and plot ten steps into the future. Pryce preferred quick to almost anything. Plus it wasn't particularly EASY using a dagger against a sword, and Teague always said Pryce refused to do things the easy way. Pryce looked at his reflection in his bronze dagger and smiled. He liked it because it made him feel clever, even when the whole world wanted to tell him he was dumb. Because the dagger reminded him of Teague. Because when Teague wasn't there Pryce could look at his reflection and remember Teagan Davis telling him he's not a waste of space and potential. The dagger represented his best friend.
My mom grabbed my hand and led my into one of our living rooms. Oh, I should probably mention that my step dad, Andrew Alderaz, is one of the richest men in America. He's not Myron King, but he's up there. Our house in Orlando had four stories and several private wings: one for me, one for Mom and Andrew, one for guests. We headed for the guest wing, at the front of the house. My friends and Andrew were all sitting around, grinning. Even Aria was smiling at me. At the center of the room was a large box shaped thing with a sheet thrown over it. Mom nudged me. She's could barely contain her excitement. "Go on, honey," she said. "Open it." Strange statement, as it wasn't actually wrapped, but I ran to the center of the room and ripped off the sheet. My breath caught in my throat. "Oh wow!" The box shaped thing was a terrarium, with rocks and a little water area. Inside was a tiny turtle. Turtles happened to be my favorite animals, along with sharks and whales. I whirled on my mother. Her onyx eyes were shining. "Mom thank you!" "Happy birthday honey." She pulled me into a fierce hug. "You should name it Sciron," Pryce suggested with a grin. I glared at him. "I suggested that to Aethra," Andrew said. "She said it wouldn't go over well. Isn't it from that myth you like Teague? The bandit guy with the giant turtle?" My mom had gone deathly pale. She knew about our adventures. Andrew, however, did not, and Mom wanted to keep it that way. He didn't know that a few months ago the five of us had actually faced off with the bandit Sciron and his giant turtle. We'd almost died. The bandit had liked to feed travelers to the turtle, and when he'd tried it in us I'd kicked him off the cliff. His turtle ate him. They were still my favorite animal though. And little turtles couldn't eat a full sized human. Probably. "I think I'll name him Speedy," I announced.
