Sheâd never been on an airship before. She hated it. Raven and Qrow hovered by a window and fidgeted nervously, looking out at the open air. Neither of them were afraid the ship would go down, it just felt⌠claustrophobic. Not for the first time she wished she had wings of her own and could fly like her namesake.
âWhat do we do if someone recognises us? Itâs not like we were overly creative with our names,â Qrow murmured, casting a glance at the other students milling around them.
âOzpin said heâd deal with it,â she replied. The headmaster had figured them out right away, but had offered help as soon as they explained the situation, telling them that everyone deserved a second chance. âUnless he was lying and weâll be arrested and executed the moment the plane lands.â Somehow she doubted that. There was something off about the headmaster, but heâd seemed honest enough about that, at least.
âBetter Vale soldiers than the tribe,â Qrow murmured. Rave nodded in agreement, her hand going to the barely healed scars that wrapped around her back and sides. It was now two months since theyâd run from the bandits whoâd⌠âraisedâ wasnât quite the right word, nor ârescuedâ. They might not have died in the same attack that had killed their parents before they were old enough to remember them, but the years of abuse had added up and taken their toll. Qrow, with his semblance, had had it particularly bad. Raven had defended him as best she could. Until two months ago. As soon as sheâd been able to move without wanting to scream theyâd started running, and hadnât stopped. With their skills and history, crime or becoming huntsmen had seemed like the only options. And the latter might just be their ticket to the freedom theyâd always wanted.
âWhat if they show up at Beacon?â She wondered.
âThey wonât. Thatâd be too much effort for them,â he replied. âBut itâs best we not set foot on Anima again.â She nodded again, though she knew she would miss the forests and wilderness sheâd grown up in. âLook, there it is.â He pointed at the towering building. The city below them was completely alien, more people, roads, buildings, and lights than theyâd seen in their whole lives. But Beacon still stood out, and many of the other students were marveling at it as well. They reached for each other at the same time, steeling themselves to face the future as the ship descended and they grabbed their things, stepping into the courtyard of Beacon Academy.
