I've noticed some people might not know what the Sublime is, or the proto-romanticism of the late 18th century and... those are very severe gaps in your understanding of the French Revolutionaries and their culture. It's as severe as not knowing how much the Ancient Greeks and Romans, known specifically through Plutarch's lens, influence almost everything in their world, more than the Catholic religion does for certain groups. They're not just, uh, "weebs" for Antiquity, to use a modern analogy. It goes much farther than that. Anticomania influences not only art, architecture, fashion, but also literature, philosophy and politics. They're adopting their values to the point that the Christian view on suicide is supplanted by the Greco-Roman one. Stoicism also deeply impacts their relationship with death, especially when it comes to facing their own (i.e. their executions).
