#props crew

So, I don’t know if any other props crews go crazy but oh my lord. I freaking love my props crew experience. We’ve been working on this show (Dead Man’s Cell Phone) for about 2 or 3 months now and we honestly still aren’t done with all of the props, even though it’s tech week and the show starts next weekend. I have had so much fun. Bear with me as I share some of my experiences from props.

We have made literally everything into a competition. The biggest one was the last one we did when we were staining some wooden benches. We divided into 3 teams, the Scary Scorpions, the Confused Cats, and the Hangry Hoes (that was my team). Anyway, that comp. got INTENSE. Wood stain got everywhere, and I don’t think there was a single person who was untouched other than our props master who judged and supervised our work.

We have also love our disney and Barbie movies. Fairly certain that this is specific to my crew, but oml, anytime we pick music, it’s either a disney radio or the soundtrack to a Barbie movie. Of course I’m not complying because I love both of those things.

We have also made a freaking mess out of the building portion of props. We’ve had wobbly bars, tables, benches, literally anything we built has an uneven surface. We all problem solve together though, which is a lot of fun.

Lastly, we’ve developed a sort of family. Though we don’t meet everyday, we’ve all grown a lot closer. For example, today we were cutting tissue paper for a really cool scene and our props master left for thirty seconds and came back to see a crew member offering her his hair which he had cut a giant chunk of. Maybe this isn’t the best example of this, but it was pretty funny. We roast each other, we have specific roles, and we all support each other. I kid you not, there is probably one time every meeting where we have to share clothes.
