ā Ah, tonight I have things planned that donāt include her screaming your name. ā
@prophetries | for the memes.
A casual stride or so ahead of the younger woman along the ramparts, the Inquisitor's remark causes Meredith to stop so suddenly that she nearly stumbles with just how quickly she turns her head in Evelyn's direction. Amid the scars that speak to her past comes a tinge of red; warm to the face, she'd not exactly expected such a thing to come up, let alone be mentioned so... boldly.
"I... I see. I was not aware you... would be preoccupying Lady Comstock tonight."
Gradually, Meredith returns to face forward, finding it a little difficult to meet Evelyn's eye, instead peering out to the skyline, and the tops of the mountains.
Maker, help me.
"There was not a... complaint, was there?"

" put it down, it can wait. " she leans against the war table, the only two left within it's confines after the others had retired. tis it not always them? a cousin, more like a sister, reaches out to grasp at the inquisitor's hand that's flattened to the map of orlais, a brief brush of familiarity that may draw the woman from her thoughts. it has been far too long since she had last seen her consume anything. " have you eaten today, evie? " she ought to address her superior by her title, but she doesn't come to evelyn as her commanderābut kin.

WARRANT OUT FOR @prophetries ' ARREST!
JAIL!!!!!!! JAIL FOR 1000 YEARS!!!!!!!!
Please tell me about how Regin put the pieces together when discovering Solas was FenāHarel and her thought process when finally coming face to face with him at the end of Trespasser :)
random headcanon and meta asks || unprompted || ALWAYS accepting || OOOH I HAVE ACTUALLY ALWAYS WANTED TO TALK ABOUT THIS I LOVE YOU BRI || @prophetries
So when it came to Solas; Regin was always suspicious of him. Even when she's in love with him, she's suspicious of him and fully aware he's a lot more than he says he is. However, they were, for a little while there, the only two elves surrounded by Chantry zealots and enforcers, he saved her life from the Anchor, and despite his disdain for the Dalish- she enjoyed listening to him speak on magic, on the Fade and his dreams- and he was absolutely subjected to her endless curiosity, and probably was the person who most often interacted with her, and the one she would wax poetic about storms and clouds and wind currents to. Whether it's a romance or just a friendship, she had a certain fondness towards him.
Regin was also keenly aware that if she ever pushed too hard or forced a confrontation, that he'd bolt. At no point did Regin believe Solas owed her the whole of himself before he was comfortable- and she wanted him to trust her enough to tell her himself. Obviously, they came close but- Not close enough.
So the first things that clued her in are his body-language. When they first met at the Breach, Solas was actively trying to minimize himself- appear smaller and lesser than he truly was. When they meet in Haven- his body language has entirely changed. He stands broad-shouldered, straight and proud, almost militaristically proper- and he walks in a very specific, intentional sort of way that somehow comes off as incredibly naturally. He single-tracks like a wolf. And in how he dresses- he dresses in a way to make himself- not a noticeable, to hide his stature and physique, as well as to kind of disguise his body language where he can.
He knows an absolutely beautifully wicked amount about magic and the veil- more than any mage she's ever known, more than a Keeper, more than a Circle-mage or any other apostate. And yes! it absolutely could just be from dreams and dreaming and his spirit-friends, but something about it... It just prickled in her mind. And because he was often who she came to when she had magical questions or theories, she saw a lot of the depths of his knowledge. His sheer power-level, even pre-Flemythal absorption is something to note as well. [ Multiple times in my playthrough, Solas and Regin were the 'last men standing' when combat went south, and often the two of them would finish the battle, or one of the other and I did incorporate this sort of into Regin's canonical observations of him, though obviously if any Solas player didn't want this to be a thing it wouldn't have to be.] {Furthermore in verses with @purposecorrupted (ilybabe), we've established that Regin essentially- helped Solas re-acquaint himself with magic in a post-Veil world at the start of Inquisition. He kind of disguised it as wanting to learn from a mage from an entirely other culture and part of the world than the 'small northern village' that he came from, but- something about the WAY he cast magic, the WAY he manipulated energy and how he willed his magic into being- and how strangely clumsy he was with some spells and not with others? It just set off alarm bells in her mind {bc remember, Solas has only been alive in a post-Veil world for about a year when the Inquisition happens.}}
His absolute ease and his general demeanor when they functioned within the Winter Palace was another major moment for her- he gave her a lot of phenomenal advice for furthering her own goals alongside the Inquisition's- he loved the politics and the danger and the sex in the air, and he navigated it like a predator- helped her to do the same. Yeah, she noted that.
His closeness with spirits stuck in her mind as well- and it's not that she feared spirits especially, because I don't think she feared them as much as didn't fully understand them, as many mages in the modern Thedosian world didn't, and Regin always tries to understand things before she allows herself to fear. And he was just so wholly different in his- approach, his knowledge. The way he had to guide his friend Wisdom into death... And then his ease of the elvhen language, his resolute refusal of most of the commonly known Dalish stories and history... The way his disapproval and dislike of the Dalish felt both- betrayed and wounded, even if it often sounded condescending.
The moment they stepped foot in Mythal's temple, Regin was sure he was an 'ancient elf' but honestly she started thinking it long before. Finding Ameridan made her half-sure she was right, and Mythal's temple made her entirely sure of it. As more and more of the truth of the Evanuris was revealed she was pretty settled in him being a member of the rebellion against them- and yeah, at the very start of this theory and such, she thought he was more an AGENT of Fen'Harel than the Dread Wolf himself.
and then when he ends things with her.... Yeah, she knew. She knew he was an ancient and honestly she's pretty sure he was going to tell her but couldn't bring himself to. And she knew he was going to be gone, after Corypheus to. She kind of always figured the Trespasser confrontation was going to be... SOMETHING that happened in some manner- either there would be a confrontation of some sort, or she'd never see him again- because, again, she's fully aware from day one that the Anchor is killing her.
And then Trespasser begins. And I'm going to be fully honest- The moment they entered that first ruin where you see the first fresco after the eluvians. The moment that Regin saw that first fresco from the rebellion of the Dread Wolf versus the evanuris, and read the corresponding text left behind from either the artist or other rebels, she was like '... What if I had it wrong?'
