he  tends  to  not  bother  her  when  she  reads  but  things  have  changed  drastically  in  the  last  three  months.  tulin  strives  to  check  on  his  pregnant  wife  regardless  of  what  she  does,  unless  she  is  asleep  or  her  comfort  has  already  been  taken  care  of.  it's  like  a  clock  ticking  in  his  head  how  the  minutes  pass  and  he  never  fails  to  ask  how  gwendolyn  fares.

the  ex-crow  makes  his  steps  audible,  announcing  him,  as  he  invades  the  tranquility  of  gwen's  reading  corner.  she's  huddled  in  pillows  and  fully  focused  on  her  current  read,  the  title  of  which  is  illegible  to  him.  she  knows  his  habits  all  too  well  now  and  makes  the  effort  to  put  the  book  down.  tulin  smiles  when  their  eyes  meet.

"do  you  need  anything,  mi  vida?"  he  chirps,  watching  gwen  untuck  her  feet  from  under  her  and  pat  the  book  in  her  lap.  she  puts  on  her  thinking  face,  then  her  hand  falls  to  her  round  belly.  he  deduces  it's  a  craving  she  is  trying  to  place,  but  doesn't  move  until  she  extends  her  other  arm  toward  —  wanting  him  closer.

tulin  feels  warm  all  over  as  he  leans  down,  a  hand  on  each  side  of  her.  gwen  throws  her  arms  around  his  shoulders  now  but  he  is  quick  to  notice  the  guilty  shape  of  her  lips.  "  mmm,  darling,  do  you  remember  the  chocolates  you  brought  me  last  month?  the  box  painted  with  sparrows  and  flowers  —  orlesian  if  i  recall  correctly?  "

it  doesn't  take  him  long  to  pinpoint  exactly  what  gwen  refers  to,  because  they  were  claimed  to  be  a  rare  and  expensive  import  that  naturally  she  loved.  "of  course.  i  should've  bought  more."  they  probably  wouldn't  have  lasted  much  longer.  tulin  gives  her  thigh  a  squeeze  but  gwen  refuses  to  let  him  off  until  she  kisses  him.  she  pulls  him  in  and  her  lips  apologize  for  the  trouble  her  cravings  put  him  through.

he  thinks  of  it  differently.  it's  no  bother  at  all  —  it's  the  least  he  is  able  to  do  —  to  pamper  her.  tulin  lingers  there,  kissing  her  back  like  he  always  does,  with  no  cool  notes.  gwen  caresses  his  shoulders  before  letting  him  straighten  up.

"i'll  try  to  not  be  long,  mami."  he  promises  softly,  now  his  palm  caressing  her  baby  bump.  as  stupid  as  it  is,  he's  missed  gwen  while  she  read  and  now  it's  tearing  his  heart  to  leave. 

"she's  good  today?"

"  very  good, "  gwen  affirms,  putting  her  hand  over  his.  "  but  for  you  she  might  start  stirring. "  her  lilac  eyes  are  warm  and  her  smile  widens.  tulin  sighs  knowingly.  "maybe  later."

nearly  two  hours  later,  he  is  glad  to  see  gwen  in  the  spot  he's  left  her.  he  finds  it  hard  to  believe  she  hasn't  gotten  up,  but  at  least  he  doesn't  find  her  in  the  middle  of  something  it's  better  she  not  do.  however,  he  doesn't  like  how  long  it  took  him  to  come  back.  the  chocolate  was  much  harder  to  find  this  time  around  and  it  required  him  to  almost  throw  a  punch,  but  none  of  that  is  on  tulin's  face  as  he  rushes  holding  the  painted  box.

he  adores  the  way  she  lights  up  —  how  her  lips  curl  with  one  of  the  biggest  smiles.  he  drops  right  next  to  her  and  opens  the  box  to  reveal  the  selection  of  fine  chocolates  and  pralines.  "here  you  go,  alma."  and  while  gwen  struggles  to  pick  which  she'll  eat  first,  tulin  cuddles  into  her  ear,  kisses  it,  and  takes  the  chance  to  fill  his  senses  with  the  scent  of  her  shampoo.  he  looks  back  down  when  she  starts  chewing  and  humming.

Immigration Defense Project is a great resource as it shows what rights you have and has pamphlets in various languages not limited to English and Spanish. It also has a section that shows ICE raids tactics! The IDP provides litigation, works with policy and advocacy, and provides legal advice as well.

We Have Rights is primarily used to know your rights in the aftermath of being detained. It provides videos on the different aspects of what rights you have such as having a right to an attorney, etc.

One of the most important thing to do is to have an EMERGENCY PLAN. The thought of being deported is terrifying and no one should be complacent in the actions this administration is taking. Regardless, it is happening and we cannot ignore it and it’s important to be prepared if you are affected by this reality. Having an emergency plan is important so whoever is not being detained knows who to contact, what medications are needed, the doctors, etc. are all put together in the instance the worst case happens. We Have Rights have the preparedness document at the bottom of the website if you are in need of one.

I would not change coming from a family of immigrants. I would choose it in every life time and to my fellow community, I hope you would too.
