For the character thing: Tsukishima Kei
First of all, thank you so much for sending me an ask. Youāre a starā„
How I feel about this character
My feelings about Tsukishima are a little complicated. His sharp tongue and the tendency to poke fun feels a little too uncomfortably close to certain experiences I had in middle school (amazing those still bother me at all, really). Not that Tsukishima ever said/did anything I would consider even remotely the same, but the way he looks sometimes, the mockery, makes me a little uncomfortable.
On the other hand, I actually identify with him a lot, to a ridiculous degree. I see him do or say some things and thereās this really intense feeling going through me like āyeah, I know how that feels like, I know what made him feel the urge to say that, Iāve felt it before myselfā.
The whole thing with Akiteru clearly had a huge impact on him, and I a couple of years ago I went through an experience that I consider - perhaps wrongly? perhaps notā¦- very similar to his, and that, even more so, makes me feel like I understand Tsukishima from the inside (itās a little weird, if I think about it too much).
All in all, I love him a lot. Thereās the occasional tendril of unease swirling through my feelings for Tsukishima, but I love him a lot. Oh, and his character design is also very pretty, so I like the way he looks too.
All the people I ship romantically with this character
I ship him romantically with only one person - Kuroo.Ā
I think this preference of mine stems simply from my desire to give Tsukishima some support. Someone steady and reliable but who can still laugh and play around plenty, with a healthy dose of determination and who can give as good as he gets. And so Kuroo, that giant dork, is my one and only pick for Tsukishima. And vice-versa.
Why not someone else? Surely thereās more characters who fit the bill? To be honest, I have absolutely no idea.
My non-romantic OTP for this character
Hmmmm. I feel a little obliged to answer Yamaguchi here, but Iād be lying.
My actual answer is Sugawara, and Akaashi. There was a moment in season 1 between Tsukishima and Sugawara that really gave me the senpai-kouhai heart pangs, and I also like to think that he and Akaashi are each otherās Sane Person⢠in the 3rd gym group. XD
My unpopular opinion about this character
I am unaware of what the popular and unpopular opinions about Tsukishima are, so I donāt know what to say hereā¦
Oh! The way he interacts with Yamaguchi. Iām not on the āTsukishima hates Yamaguchi! Heās terrible!ā crew (on the contrary⦠if thereās anything that runs deep in Tsukishima, I think, is his friendship with Yamaguchi) and I donāt think he mistreats Yamaguchi, but pre-Yamaguchiās speech [WHAT MORE DO YOU NEED THAN PRIDE? ahhhh, just thinking about it makes me emotional] I felt like there was definitely an imbalance of some kind there, even if it was only in how other people perceived their levels of respect for each other.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.
Furudate-sensei mentioned somewhere how Tsukishima was the number one character he wanted to see make a victory fist. ME TOO. I want to see it.
I want everything to go silent, everyone holding their breath as the ball touches the ground, and I want Tsukishima standing in the middle of the court, the lights shining down on him, and without even looking up, I want him to slowly raise his fist and tremble as victory roars through him and through the entire gym as the crows and Karasuno jump and start screaming. I NEED THIS IN MY LIFE LIKE I NEED BLOOD IN MY VEINS.
Other, less serious things: I am dying to know if in later years Tsukishima and Kageyama become tsundere friends. Really. I need to know.
Iād like to have seen more interaction with Kiyoko-san, because Iām curious to know how they get along.
I also really want to see how he interacts with Ennoshita, and how that changes when Ennoshita becomes captain (because thatās a thing that will happen, right?? Ennoshita 4 cap 2k16)
Iād say more, but wow, this has gotten waaay too long.
Anyway, there it is. And thank you!
