            “i don’t know about you, detective, but my lady garden certainly doesn’t look quite so dishevelled.”       he’s been waiting to make that joke from the moment they stepped foot onto a would-be-murderer’s tacky back porch. the weeds are overgrown. there’s a can of spilled paint where the decking should be and a pair of white, latex gloves that the detective is already rip-cording from her pocket.

‘ strategically  speaking,  it’s  quite  a  good  move.   you  know,  i  HAD  wondered  why  lucifer  seemed  to  bleeding,  at  the  crime  scene  on  woodley  you  both  visited  last  week.   he  doesn’t  usually  do  .  .  .  that  .  .  . ‘       he  falters  as  he  finally  looks  up  and  catches  her  expression,  brow  furrowing  in  confusion.      ‘ .  .  .  i’m  sorry,  are  you  feeling  ill? ‘

     in her rather frank opinion trixie had been rather careful of mentioning lucifer, or anything that might remotely lead toward thoughts of the man, around her mom. she’d kept all sighs and pouts and anything else that could be considered missing him in check; only letting it out around other adults  ---  her therapist or maze or ella or ( on the rare occasion when he didn’t seem to be missing someone himself ) her father. but it was well after bedtime, she had only managed roughly half an hour of sleep, and she knew the oncoming signs of restless night if she didn’t do something will all of her thoughts. deciding that she could either admit to her mother that she was having trouble sleeping, or deal with falling asleep and waking up repeatedly through out the night, trixie admitted defeat. she was only ten, after all. sliding out of bed and finding her way into the living room, the young girl shuffles on her feet near the edge of the couch. biting her lip briefly before clearing her throat.   “mom?”
