Hello Tumblr peeps how have you been? Academic has been a mood killer and stress inducer for me. Luckily Christmas vacation has already started for me. I’ve just been sleeping this weekend the weather was perfect to just stay in bed all day, albeit I feel guilty for not tuning in on the news. We’re just humans getting exhausted at times too.
Anyways, I heard from my mom yesterday that two of her students won a special merit award at the competition they joined at. One of the student won at the essay section. Let me tell you all that I proof-read the essay of that student and boy the headache I got from the first draft of the student.
I know I’m still a student too, but the experience I’ve gained from the corrections from my professors, gave me the knowledge that I used on proof-reading the students essay. in total the student had to revise his paper three times as each revision, I felt that there was still something we can add and improve.
The only time I stopped and proof-read for the last time, when the student told my mom that they felt useless as I don’t get their idea. In my defense I get the students idea, its lacking on content and information that could help them. Anyways I told mom that’ll be the last time as I don’t need a know it all to tell me that I’m not doing my job properly.
So yeah where is this entry heading? The student won and the winning title of the essay was my idea. The main takeaway is that don’t think of proof-readers and editors as your enemy or someone who wants to see you lose, but someone who wants to see you get better and produce better content. (Plus a little brag that I’ve been winning essay competitions back in my high school days, as if I don’t know what to write or put in there. High school kids these days thinking that what they’ve done is enough, just you wait for college to slap you in the face.)
Also this proves as a validation for me that I’m not a crappy editor or a know it all, I still got the creative and factuality in me!
