Day 2 – Design
Struggling with creating the design. Next to two designers who have lots of experience with creating first pieces from scratch. I’m cool with the idea that it could be anything but the designers want to see a proper garment. They have a clear vision which makes it hard for me to implement my ideas.
We started our first and second design with lots of pleats. It was very black, it had a kind of gothic vibe and it kind of resembled the “DARQ age” which is upon us. It stands for the age of decentralization, perfect experiences, deep learning and understanding (source: trendbuero. “DARQ” - Distributed ledger, Artificial intelligence, Extended realities, Quantum computing. The third design we wanted to create more volume; square vs round broad shapes, mixing textiles with plastic (Ikea bag). In the fourth design, we created straight shapes with a kind of fetish folklore by making a mask, made out of a trouser.
A fifth design is created for tomorrow and is a combination of the previous four designs, we are going to use the square, round shapes, the fetish folklore, some goth elements, and pleats. Our design is not made for a lot of movement so we want to make tomorrow static poses which we can eventually play with when editing the images. Like making some things in the design double or making the skirt broader or for example, let it explode. Which will resemble the mutation of the humankind.

Day 1 – Concept
The first day of the project week, it all started with creating the concept. The question which we needed to explore further was called “the future of senses”. Everything that popped up in our heads, we needed to write down in our group at post it’s. Later we narrowed all these words down to three subjects and what we thought would happen in the future of senses.
Our three subjects:
1. Overstimulation
Constant overexposure has left our senses numb and exhausted. Our senses are tired, our senses need recovery.
2. Deception and/or mutation
It’s a balance and cooperative of both in favor of and against our digital reality.
3. The sixth sense
Holistic, universal, hybrid sensory experience, a sense of intuition. The gut feeling that guides us will adapt to the digital intuitive authenticity.
PROJECT WEEK @ EKWC / NL
EKWC adviser & expert Sander Alblas introduces our 2° and 3° year BA students into 3D-digital printing techniques, opening up our artistic playground. Process versus outcome, machine versus hand, perfection versus error... a lot of experiences to think about.
AI Simulation (2013)
While I was on a break in Wellington one year, I decided to start spamming Love2D programs for the fun of it. Kind of like a speed challenge; it gets you motivated, feeling creative and makes for good programming practice. I made one program a day for a few days (the intention was to do it for a week); the last one actually resulting in a pretty promising game concept that I should post about on here some time (and is the reason I did not continue writing a project per day in that week).
Anyway, here is the first program I made. It’s some kind of AI Simulator. It’s in the style of Rock-Paper-Scissors. I wanted to create a system where AI would be constantly interacting with one-another forever, but was unable to create a system without a point of equilibrium.
It is basically like “this colour hates this colour hates this colour …”. Red shapes are being chased (running away from something chasing it), shapes with a Yellow highlight are chasing (following a red shape). A clear example of this is the Green Triangle chasing the Blue Triangle at the top.
Clicking anywhere creates a pile of random shapes. It’s interesting to see it evolve but it reaches racial supremacy pretty fast, wherein one colour has too many members to be overthrown as the “dominant” colour.

Project Week Poll!
Help me decide what project I should have a week for!
EPIPHANY
A project I worked on on along side some of my fellow students, for the 2014 project week at the Minerva Academy.
The goal was to visualize what a moment of epiphany looks like.
Project Week in Lyon
For our second project week I organized together with my roommate a project week, with the aim of having a cultural diversity dialogue at two schools in Lyon and exploring together the rich French culture a bit more in depth. Apparently we had some organisational struggles, until we finally arrived, however it was one of the greatest trips I’ve ever had. :) Especially, because I was together with my lovely roommate Drenusha. We had a lot of fun together and as I knew the city already I tried to organize a more in depth program, such as visiting a silk weaver workshop, going to a Gallo-Roman amphitheater or seeing the local museum for film sets, as Lyon is home to the worlds most famous film mask and set creators.
It was lovely getting around the city by foot, walking down the Saône and Rhône on a sunny afternoon or talking with the people we got to meet. All in all a great trip!
