How would be my take in reboot Lotor (part 2)
His relationship with Zarkon: Lotor's daddy's issues are other aspect that affect a lot his character. I would not just keep but turn it more problematic. Clearly VLD Zarkon and Lotor hated each other, but I think would be more realistic give more duality to this unbalanced relationship. Of course, Zarkon personally would be very different form his VLD version, he would be more comical (talk more about him in another post), so in the same time he treat Lotor as a common soldier sometimes he play a sassy and paternal role, what get Lotor nerves. But deep down, even reboot Lotor declare he is indifferent for his father, he still have mixed feelings about this man (in this version he truly raised Lotor), like there were two people inside him. In some point of the story Zarkon be consumed by mental ill, insanity and incapacity, and Lotor is the only person he can have a coherent dialog. So, I would work something kinda of angst, complicated and comical.
Something broken as Ice King and Marcy.
His relationship with his mom: In my version his mom continue be Honerva, the scientist. So, before she give birth to him, Honerva run away from the Empire and was disappeared. Lotor spend his early years with her in some desert planet help her with a Project that she never fully clarify to him, he ignored the fact the Galra Emperor was his dad and all he needed to know, second her mom, was that they are hiding from him. So he was naively glad with his hole as mirim assistant until the day she dies and he is rescued (taken) by Zarkon (I am gonna write this full story in a close future).
I loved the idea of let Haggar and his mom be the same person and I would like to play with this possibility. So, after a time, this weird Altean (I will keep her sinister aspect) just appears in the Honerva Lab. No one know how she got there or how can have some altean alive after the explosion of the planet, in this time increase the theory about an errant altean ship with survivors that Alfor hides his child. By anyway, no one bother with Haggar presence since the is very useful, quiet and avoid any type of company (and she is so indifferent that even Zarkon have to bear her unfriendly mood). During a long time in the narrative everyone, including herself, will believe she might be a close of Honerva, but be prepare for a pilot twist.
And this time she and Lotor will a super dramatic encounter when everything were revealed.
His relationship with the Empire (elite and people)
Lotor still will be a lonely soul, an outsider and someone viewed as a mistake. Of course, the soldiers don't like his blood but what they hate the most about him is his lack of violent nature and his apathy about their case. Lotor is the type of employee that don't have enthusiasm but bring too much results to be fired. He don't support that stupid way to get energy destroying planets, but he isn't passionaly engaged in change things, he believe the galras walking to their own destruction and all he is gonna do is wait. But the story goes developing and he learn about care about other people. When Zarkon dies and he became Emperor he proves be a better leader, more concern in keep the population alive than invest in war's matters. People from lower classes can see a safe future with him but old school generation dont want to know about stability and future, they want conquer the fucking Universe. And Lotor will have problems in prove his loyalty, mainly after such successful alliance with Voltron and the companionship with the princess. But he will have to make a difficult choice.
Was working on a character’s design reboot today. This is just a design variation of many in the works, however, this was the only one I bothered to paint up a little.
His name is Random--and his original colors remain consistent to those he had almost ten years ago now, although he’s undergoing a complete redesign.
His personality, perspective, species, artwork, history, capabilities, and physical appearance are being entirely overhauled for thorough revival, and his companions from the past will also be dealing with some character refurbishing. :)
Things are looking up for this old crew!
