I think Missandei and Grey Worm are going to âbetrayâ D@ny.Â
I had been always thinking her third betrayal - the one for love - would be Jon - for Sansa, or the North or his family. But now I think it is going to be Missandei and Grey Worm.Â
I had originally had it in my mind that one or both of them was going to die in last nightâs episode. They were too pure, too in love, and planning for the future on this show is just about the surest sign that you are about to die. But now I realise they were laying the groundwork for something else.
Missandei and Grey Worm are the most loyal of D@nyâs subjects. They are more loyal than Tyrion, who no matter what he says has divided loyalties. More loyal than Varys, certainly. And even more loyal than Jorah - who though he loved her, had a mark on his record from the beginning of their relationship.Â
Now that they both survived the Battle of Winterfell, I think they are both going to be looking towards the future. From Missandeiâs conversation with Jon and Davos in Dragonstone, the Masterâs comment to Grey Worm about still being a slave, and the conversation about them wanting to go to Naath, I think it is now pretty clear that them leaving IS going to be a problem. Their faith in D@ny will shake, because she will view this as the ultimate betrayal.Â
She may value their counsel, she may value their lives, but she values loyalty above all else - and what you can do for her. All of the way she âlovesâ people is inherently selfish. That isnât her fault, she hasnât learned to love in any other way, which is truly tragic, but it doesnât change the person she is today.Â
I put âbetrayâ in quotation marks because I think D@ny will view Missandei and Grey Worm wanting to leave as such, but it will be very clear to the GA that they are just two young people in love who have suffered far more than any person should have to, and they want to build a life together. They will see that Missandei was wrong, that D@ny would not give her a ship and send her on her way.Â
I think her reaction to them, more than any Dance of Dragons, etc. will secure her place as one of the ultimate âvillainsâ/antagonists.
I adore Missandei and Grey Worm, and it is for their sakes that I will be sad if/when this ultimately happens - not only because it could mean their deaths, but also because they have given their lives to someone that wouldnât do the same for them.Â
