How Not To Look Like A Jackass
So, David Willis did a thing that made him look like a jackass. For those of you who don't know, he's the guy who writes/draws the webcomic Shortpacked! And recently handed in this comic: http://www.shortpacked.com/2013/comic/book-14/09-same-planet-different-dimentia/strawman-2/
So, what's the problem? Guy just has a problem with people misstating the Strawman Fallacy, right? Well, if it were that simple I wouldn't be writing about it. You see, Willis has been accused MANY, MANY times of strawmanning his opponent/anyone he disagrees with, and is fed up with it. WITHOUT GETTING INTO WHETHER HE STRAWMANS OR NOT, this comic was a bad idea, since now he looks like a petty jackass.
As a webcomic creator, or any semi-famous person really, you look like a prick for making a fuss about critisisms of your work, especially on a public forum, since it comes off as, at best "How DAAAAAARE you critisise ME??" and at worst "Hey, everyone who likes me! This guy doesn't like me! You should attack him for it!"
If he made a blog post about it? Might be okay. But he had to put this in the MAIN FUCKING COMIC. Which is for his readers to get a laugh, not for him to soapbox about his problems, especially since his readers are entirely the people he's complaining about here. And what did he think this would accomplish? By his own reasoning these people are too stupid to see sense, so there's no use arguing with them, or just looking to discredit him, so there's no use justifying their comments by responding to them.
Recently, Willis posted that he has only been keeping up Shortpacked! for financial reasons for some while, and plans to shut it down except for posts pertaining to him "making fun of MRAs". So, folks, if you were a fan of Shortpacked!, give up on it now, cause the comic's creator has pretty much gone on record as having abandoned you, instead preferring to use the webcomic you liked for political catharsis. Though frankly, you probably don't need me to tell you that at this stage.
