The Unterra Region’s Professors: Professor Melanie Larch, and Professor Lydia Maple (more info under the cut)
Professor Melanie Larch-
Her main partner pokemon is a Furret, and it is always out of its ball.
She’s an expert with normal types, and sees the potential in all pokemon. Also believes that normal types shouldn’t be underestimated for being seen as ‘plain’ and ‘basic’.
Grew up and was trained for this position in the Sinnoh region.
Her mentor was Professor Rowan himself, and her friend Adrian worked and trained alongside her, until a falling out happened between them that she seems to never want to talk about.
Adrian fled the region and quit as Rowan’s apprentice, leaving Larch as the sole apprentice to Rowan.
She was given the Professor of Unterra title by Professor Aspen. Larch is the second ever professor of the region.
Has her own assistant/apprentice that acts as a backup professor, named Professor Maple.
Professor Larch has a tendency to get crushes very easily, and is mercilessly teased about this by her sisters and Professor Maple.
Professor Lydia Maple-
Originally from the Hoenn region.
She did the league challenge as a teen, lost to Hoenn's champion Steven Stone, and fled to Sinnoh out of shame/feeling as if she’d let her team down, leaving her team in Hoenn so she could start over.
When she first arrived in Sinnoh she visited Lake Acuity to contemplate what to do. Uxie appeared to her, and she was hit with the revelation that she wanted to start over, and learn more about pokemon...Also, she wanted to ask the Professor about the strange yellow pokemon that appeared to her (Maple couldn't find Rowan, and settled for Larch).
Professor Larch, who was heading to Unova to explore new pokemon, told her all about the lake trio, and how Uxie is the spirit of knowledge.
Maple decided to pursue becoming a professor, her mentor being Larch after she graduated from being Professor Rowan's apprentice.
Her entire team is in Hoenn...BUT Beau the Flygon refused to leave her, so he flew across an entire region to get to her as soon as she left (he imprinted on her as a Trapinch, and will never leave her side now). He’s very protective of his trainer (as far as Beau is concerned, Maple is his mother).
Has traveled to different regions with Maple before they were appointed the professors of the Unterra region. They still have yet to visit Galar, however.
Maple carries a mystery egg around, it is a test given by Larch.
Acts as a secondary professor to Larch.
Has an affinity for ground types.
