While I'm on the thought of Hazbin Hotel...

You will never see me partaking in the rabid demonization and dehumanization of the one choreographer involved in making HH who is being targeted for having a rape/CNC kink, making fanart of Angeldust & Valentino, and whose private life is being picked apart.

Why?

Because...demonizing this person (whether a fellow victim/survivor or not) for all the reasons stated above creates a hostile and sometimes dangerous environment for ALL SURVIVORS.

Think for a moment about the precedent that is set amidst this drama. Survivors' personal traumas and abuse stories (which is sensitive information people have a RIGHT to keep private and not share) are put under a microscope and judged by STRANGERS who use a survivor's private/personal/consensual choices as a metric for validity, safety, and respect. Same bullshit behavior that happens in courts to dismiss and punish survivors of all types. Plus, in the reverse situation, strangers DEMANDING that a person reveals their survivor status or demanding the details of a survivor's abuse story (to "validate" the their personal/private/consensual choices) is putting some survivors in an outright dangerous situation. Some people are being stalked and face retaliation by abusers in a variety of different situations that would make keeping abuse stories private a matter of safety.

The issue I take with a lot of anti-ship and anti-kink rhetoric is that it mirrors the same type of religious moral panic that came dangerously close to influencing me to always view human beings as one-dimensional when I was still an Evangelical Christian (I realized that mindset shift and put effort into correcting it over several years).

Please hear me out.

A lot of the worry, terror, and panic about the world and its people turning bad, especially/usually from an extreme religious perspective, CAN stem from this idea that the Evil People who do the Evil Things want to actively INFECT all the Pure People with their brand of Evilness. Also, the idea that indirectly interacting with the Evil People puts you, a Pure Person, at risk of being INFECTED, so the Evil People and must be subdued, monitored, and separated from the Pure People (and not given the same rights as you).

After all, growing up in an environment that focuses on supernatural powers/entities/beings that have more influence and authority over human morality than humans have over themselves can create the strong potency of this way of thinking, which can affect the way one views non-religious issues (even from a non-religious mindset).

I've seen this idea and rhetoric floating around anti-kink and anti-ship spaces. When I think about it, this is how that kind of logic is translated in my brain and how it looks to me: the Gross Icky Bad way that a person exists/chooses/behaves automatically reduces their three-dimensional personhood into one-dimensional EVIL that WILL %100 influence and hurt others. As if by supernatural spell, what once was a whole person has turned into just a Degenerate, and following that transformation is Degeneracy. No longer a noun referring/describing a person. Just a noun referring to a state/property/process that is spoken about as if it's devoid of face, name, personality.
