Sure, Pear has seen a swapfell before after all he /is/ one, is dating one, and knows two others, but has he seen a pair of twins? they're certainly bigger than Dingo, leaning against a wall with a smoke in their mouth. They speaking in a language Pear doesn't know... Russian, probably. [prison--riot]
What the actual fuck?
These two are taller than Dingo, and they’re speaking the devils language. Well. Its probably not the devils language, but he doesn’t understand either of them, and that’s a problem for him. At least they’re not standing next to him.

America doesn’t appear to have one of the most troubling prison systems in the world on the surface. Prisoners are not having to sleep on concrete staircases like many are at the overpopulated Quezon City jail in Manila, and there’s no prisons that are being run by the prisoners themselves like there is in Pernambuco, a state in Brazil; so overall the corruption seems lower, and the conditions much better in comparison to some other parts of the world.
However, despite them having ‘less than 5% of the worlds population’, more than a quarter of the worlds prisoners are imprisoned there. Does the fact that it’s a very lucrative industry - a multi-billion pound business - have anything to do with that?
Prisoners across the country recently went on a three week strike due to what some inmates were calling 'modern day slavery’; calling out extreme exploitation, discrimination and corruption in the prison system.
You hear rumours about people being advised or coerced into taking plea deals, (despite often being known to be innocent), or left languishing in their cells for years without a fair trial; the 'excessive use of solitary confinement’ that has already been widely condemned by other governments and most of us are aware of the blatant racial bias resulting in a disproportionate amount of black and brown bodies being incarcerated or given longer-life long sentences. But prisoners are also being paid as little as 4cents an hour for their labour, and more recently 'volunteers’ who helped out during the Californian wild wildfires were only paid a dollar an hour.
Yes we live in a world where you lose your freedom and certain privileges if you commit a crime, and of course it makes sense that prisoners would partake in some form of work or daily activity; but are these prisons a place to punish and rehabilitate? Or seen as an opportunity for big companies and large corporations to get away with making lots of money from cheap labour? 💭 - 📷by Stefan Ruiz
