Arthur: You’re gonna hate me.
Victoria: Oh god, why?
Arthur: They brought it up.
Victoria: Ugh. I knew they would.
Arthur: And they want it sooner rather than later.
Victoria: I don’t understand it. Henry is a fine heir. I will marry eventually.
Arthur: They’re worried about it. An unmarried queen near 30 -
Victoria: - Arthur, I’m 27.
Arthur: - with no marital prospects is a breeding ground for unrest.
Victoria: So what would they have me do?
Arthur: Get married. Find someone that you like, that you get along with, and marry them. It’s not going to be easy, but it is the easiest way to get them off your back.

On This Day In Royal History . 12 September 1938 . Prince Arthur of Connaught died aged 55 . 2/2: Prince Arthur acted as a Counsellor of State during periods of the King’s (George V) absence abroad. In 1906, by order of the King, he vested the Meiji Emperor of Japan with the Order of the Garter, as a consequence of the Anglo-Japanese Alliance. . On 15 October 1913, Prince Arthur married his cousin Princess Alexandra, 2nd Duchess of Fife (17 May 1891 – 26 February 1959) at the Chapel Royal, St. James’s Palace, London. Princess Alexandra was the eldest daughter & heir of the 1st Duke of Fife & the Princess Royal, the eldest daughter of King Edward VII. As such, the couple were first cousins once removed. They had a son, Alastair. . In 1920, Prince Arthur succeeded Viscount Buxton as governor-general & commander-in-chief in South Africa. The Earl of Athlone succeeded him in these posts in 1924. Upon returning to Britain, Prince Arthur became involved in a number of charitable organizations, including serving as chairman of the board of directors of Middlesex Hospital. Like his father, the Duke of Connaught, he was active in the Freemasons, becoming Provincial Grand Master for Berkshire in 1924. . Prince Arthur of Connaught died of stomach cancer at age 55 on 12 September 1938. He is buried in the Royal Burial Ground, Frogmore. The only person Arthur obsessively cares about is Merlin and the only person Merlin would die for is Arthur. If that's not what love is, I don't know what it is... Arthur about death: - Of all the things I've faced... I've never worried about dying. (He just worried about Merlin) Merlin about death: - You must have a reason. Something you care about. Something that's more important than anything. (Arthur is more important to Merlin than his own life) In the end - they lose each other and everything else. That's why Merlin is way more tragic than Romeo & Juliet.
